Preview Roundups
March 07, 2020
Carolina at NY Islanders 1:00 PM ET
The New York Islanders were challenging for the top spot in the Metropolitan Division less than a month ago before a season-worst slump but are now trying to hold onto the final wild card in the wake of a five-game slide (0-3-2). The Islanders will also try to halt a three-game skid at home when they host the slumping Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday afternoon.
Washington at Pittsburgh 1:00 PM ET
The Washington Capitals have dropped nine of their last 13 contests (4-7-2) to find themselves with company atop the Metropolitan Division. The Capitals look to fend off one Keystone State representative in the standings by defeating another on Saturday afternoon when they visit the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Nashville at Dallas 2:00 PM ET
The Dallas Stars have dropped off the pace in the race for Central Division supremacy and may have to start looking over their shoulder due to their longest losing streak in more than three months. One of the teams chasing the Stars is the Nashville Predators, who will look to complete a home-and-home sweep when the teams collide in Dallas on Saturday afternoon.
Minnesota at Los Angeles 4:00 PM ET
The Minnesota Wild have won seven of their last nine games overall and six in a row on the road to insert themselves in the playoff conversation in the Western Conference. The surging Wild look to continue their march on Saturday afternoon when they visit the Los Angeles Kings, who have won a season-best four in a row.
Ottawa at San Jose 7:00 PM ET
The Ottawa Senators and San Jose Sharks are two of the seven teams completely out of playoff contention, but aren't playing like it as they meet Saturday night in California. The clubs are each 3-1-0 in their last four contests, with Ottawa coming off a 4-3 victory over the New York Islanders while San Jose had a three-game winning streak snapped with a 3-2 loss to Minnesota on Thursday.
Tampa Bay at Boston 7:00 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning go after a season-series victory when they visit the Atlantic Division-leading Boston Bruins on Saturday night for the finale of four games, which could be a preview of a future playoff showdown. The Lightning won the first two meetings, including a 4-3 shootout triumph on Oct. 17 in Boston, but fell 2-1 at home on Tuesday as the Bruins started fast and registered a 35-21 edge in shots.
Montreal at Florida 7:00 PM ET
The Florida Panthers look to build off a strong effort last time out despite seeing their losing streak grow to four games (0-2-2) as they host the short-handed Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night. The Panthers fell 2-1 in overtime against the NHL-best Boston Bruins on Thursday and enter the weekend four points out of a playoff position in the Eastern Conference.
New Jersey at NY Rangers 7:00 PM ET
Mika Zibanejad looks for an encore to his stunning five-goal effort last time out and the New York Rangers aim to continue their surge when the rival New Jersey Devils pay a visit on Saturday night. The 26-year-old center scored four times in regulation and added the winning goal in overtime as the Rangers beat Washington 6-5 on Thursday to pull within two points of a playoff position in the Eastern Conference.
Buffalo at Philadelphia 7:00 PM ET
The Philadelphia Flyers are the hottest team in the NHL, with a sizzling power play and consistent offense serving to fuel the club to a season-best eight straight wins. The Flyers look to continue their ascent on Saturday when they host the reeling Buffalo Sabres, who are headed in the other direction with five consecutive losses.
Columbus at Edmonton 10:00 PM ET
Denied in their bid to complete a perfect three-game road trip, the Edmonton Oilers resume their pursuit of first-place Vegas in the Pacific Division. The schedule is set up for the Oilers to make a charge with 10 of their final 14 games at Rogers Place, beginning with Saturday's matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets in the opener of a four-game homestand.
