Preview Roundups
January 09, 2020
Winnipeg at Boston 7:00 PM ET
The Boston Bruins snapped their third losing streak of at least three games since the start of December with a strong collective effort last time out and look to build on that when they host the surging Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night. The Atlantic Division-leading Bruins were 4-5-6 in a 15-game span before getting goals from six players en route to a 6-2 victory at Nashville on Tuesday.
Edmonton at Montreal 7:00 PM ET
The Edmonton Oilers needed to get away from home to rediscover their game, posting back-to-back victories for the first time Nov. 23-24. The Oilers will look to extend their four-game point streak against an opponent that is seeking to avoid matching a season-worst slide when they visit the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night.
Arizona at Tampa Bay 7:00 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning look to continue their offensive surge and match the second-longest winning streak in franchise history when they host the Pacific Division-leading Arizona Coyotes on Thursday night. The Lightning have recorded 38 goals during their eight-game winning streak after exploding for a franchise-record tying six in the second period of Tuesday’s 9-2 victory over Vancouver, and are outscoring opponents 12-2 in the third period during the run.
Vancouver at Florida 7:00 PM ET
The Vancouver Canucks try to bounce back from their worst loss of the season when they continue a five-game trip Thursday against the Florida Panthers. Vancouver saw its seven-game winning streak end in lopsided fashion with a 9-2 loss to Tampa Bay on Tuesday as Canucks center Elias Pettersson told reporters: "... We've got to have a short memory. Learn from it and not think about it too much."
New Jersey at NY Rangers 7:00 PM ET
An injury will prevent the second showdown this season between the Nos. 1 and 2 picks in the 2019 NHL Draft but there is a chance that both Jack Hughes and Kaapo Kakko would have been overshadowed by another rookie. Hughes will not be in the lineup when the New Jersey Devils make the short trip to visit the New York Rangers on Thursday night.
Buffalo at St. Louis 8:00 PM ET
The St. Louis Blues have bolstered their bid toward repeating as Stanley Cup champions with their sizzling play at home. The Blues bid to record their seventh straight victory in the Gateway City on Thursday when they play the second contest in a season-high five-game homestand against the Buffalo Sabres.
Nashville at Chicago 8:30 PM ET
The Nashville Predators fell flat on their face in the debut of new coach John Hynes, but the club was able to turn the page following a lopsided loss and get a solid practice under its belt the following day. The Predators look to redeem themselves following their fifth defeat in six contests (1-4-1) when they visit the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday.
Minnesota at Calgary 9:00 PM ET
The Calgary Flames finally put an end to a five-game losing streak at home last Thursday and now return to Scotiabank Saddledome in decidedly better spirits after winning three in a row. The Flames swept a two-game road trip by posting a pair of one-goal victories at Minnesota and Chicago and will face a rematch against the visiting Wild on Thursday night.
Los Angeles at Vegas 10:00 PM ET
The Los Angeles Kings will face a quick turnaround as they open a five-game trip Thursday with a Pacific Division matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights. The Kings lost the last three contests of their four-game homestand that finished Wednesday with a 2-1 setback to Dallas.
Dallas at Anaheim 10:00 PM ET
The surging Dallas Stars on Thursday try for their sixth straight victory when they visit the struggling Anaheim Ducks. Dallas began its four-game road trip with a 2-1 victory over Los Angeles on Wednesday - moving into a tie for second in the Central Division with the Avalanche - as back-up goaltender Anton Khudobin earned wins in consecutive starts while allowing No. 1 Ben Bishop to take a break.
Columbus at San Jose 10:30 PM ET
The San Jose Sharks already faced an uphill climb toward a return trip to the playoffs, and that task just became even harder after reports surfaced that captain Logan Couture will be sidelined for as many six weeks with a fractured ankle. The inconsistent Sharks look to rally around the injury to their leader on Thursday when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets.
