Preview Roundups
January 20, 2020
Detroit at Washington 2:00 PM ET
The Detroit Pistons are starting to jell around some younger players and have a chance to sweep a three-game road trip. The Pistons, who took out Boston and Atlanta on the first two stops, will try to polish off the sweep when they visit the Washington Wizards on Monday.
Toronto at Atlanta 2:30 PM ET
The Toronto Raptors have won three games in a row heading into Monday’s contest at the Atlanta Hawks but, more importantly, the Raptors are getting healthy. Guard Fred VanVleet scored 29 points in Saturday’s 122-112 victory at Minnesota after missing five games with a right hamstring injury, and guard Norman Powell added 20 points for his fourth consecutive 20-plus point performance since returning from a left shoulder injury.
Philadelphia at Brooklyn 3:00 PM ET
It was a loss to the Philadelphia 76ers that started guard Kyrie Irving off on a rant about the team needing to bring in more help over the summer - a rant that was followed by a third straight loss. Irving and the Brooklyn Nets will take another crack at turning away the 76ers when they host the rematch on Monday.
Orlando at Charlotte 5:00 PM ET
The Orlando Magic have struggled to sustain their top form this season despite holding a playoff position and look to respond to a pair of losses when they complete a six-game road trip against the struggling Charlotte Hornets on Monday night. The Magic beat the Western Conference-leading Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday before dropping games against the Los Angeles Clippers and West cellar dweller Golden State.
New York at Cleveland 5:00 PM ET
The visiting New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers will try to recover from narrow losses when they meet for the third time this season Monday evening. The Knicks had a one-point lead with under a minute to play before falling 90-87 to the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night at home, dropping to 1-8 since a New Year's Day win.
Sacramento at Miami 5:00 PM ET
The Miami Heat hope to rebound from a disappointing fourth-quarter performance last time out and continue their dominance at home when they host the struggling Sacramento Kings on Monday night. The Heat open a five-game homestand after managing just 18 points in the final 12 minutes to suffer a 107-102 setback at San Antonio on Sunday afternoon - their third loss in the last five contests.
Oklahoma City at Houston 5:00 PM ET
The blockbuster trade between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets last offseason was supposed to help the Thunder reset and propel the Rockets to greater things. The standings suggest another story, as surging Oklahoma City is catching up to its rival in the Western Conference entering Monday's matchup in Houston.
New Orleans at Memphis 5:00 PM ET
The Memphis Grizzlies have surged into a playoff position in the Western Conference with seven straight victories and look to continue their ascent in the standings when they host the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday night. The Grizzlies, who hold down the eighth spot in the West, are averaging 124.3 points during their season-high streak that continued Friday by grinding out a 113-109 over Cleveland.
Chicago at Milwaukee 5:00 PM ET
The Milwaukee Bucks own the best record in the NBA and are showing no sign of slowing down after extending their latest winning streak to six straight with a 117-97 victory at Brooklyn on Saturday. The Bucks will try to make it seven in a row when they host the Chicago Bulls on Monday.
L.A. Lakers at Boston 7:30 PM ET
The Boston Celtics will try to dig themselves out of a rut against the top team in the Western Conference when they continue a three-game homestand against the rival Los Angeles Lakers on Monday. The Celtics dropped six of their last eight games after losing 123-119 to the Phoenix Suns on Saturday, despite Marcus Smart's franchise-record 11 3-pointers.
Denver at Minnesota 8:00 PM ET
The injury-hampered Denver Nuggets look to recover from a fourth-quarter collapse at home when they begin a three-game road trip just 24 hours later against the struggling Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night. The Nuggets, who are tied for third in the Western Conference, saw their three-game winning streak come to an end Sunday when they were outscored 41-26 in the final 12 minutes of a 115-107 setback against Indiana.
San Antonio at Phoenix 9:00 PM ET
The Phoenix Suns aim for their first three-game winning streak in nearly three months when they begin a two-game homestand against the San Antonio Spurs on Monday. After losing the opener of a three-game road trip at Atlanta, the Suns knocked off New York and Boston while averaging 122 points per victory.
Indiana at Utah 9:00 PM ET
The Utah Jazz were able to shake off the disappointment of a rare loss with an easy win Saturday night against Sacramento. They'll try to build a new winning streak when they finish their two-game homestand by hosting the streaking Indiana Pacers on Monday.
Golden State at Portland 10:00 PM ET
The Golden State Warriors snapped a 10-game losing streak with a 109-95 home win over the Orlando Magic on Saturday thanks to some strong effort on the defensive end. The Warriors will try to earn their first road victory since Dec. 6 when they visit the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday.
