Preview Roundups
September 15, 2018
Washington at Atlanta 1:05 PM ET
The two frontrunners for National League rookie of the year put on a show Friday night and, as the Atlanta Braves host the Washington Nationals on Saturday, Ronald Acuna Jr. and Juan Soto again will be the center of attention. Acuna fell a homer short of the cycle and finished 4-for-5 in Friday’s series-opening 10-5 victory for the NL East-leading Braves, while Soto homered and scored twice as Washington lost for the second consecutive game after winning five in a row.
LA Dodgers at St. Louis 1:05 PM ET
With red-hot Colorado holding them off for the time being atop the National League West, the Los Angeles Dodgers are trying to force their way into the playoff picture via the wild-card route and find themselves on the verge of controlling their destiny again. The Dodgers can do exactly that Saturday as they visit St. Louis for the third contest of a four-game set against the Cardinals.
Detroit at Cleveland 3:10 PM ET
Detroit Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez began his major-league career with Cleveland and spent parts of his first eight seasons with the Indians. Set to retire after the season, the 39-year-old Martinez will be honored in a pregame ceremony Saturday when the Indians host the Tigers in the second of their three-game series.
Cincinnati at Chi. Cubs 4:05 PM ET
The Chicago Cubs have been able to take advantage of their opportunities down the stretch against the last-place Cincinnati Reds, a trend they'll try to maintain Saturday in the second of three games between the National League Central division foes. Ian Happ's three-run homer in the seventh inning lifted the Cubs to a 3-2 win in the series opener, which gave them seven straight victories over the Reds - five in the past three-plus weeks.
NY Mets at Boston 4:05 PM ET
The New York Mets have been a pesky spoiler this month and can make the strongest statement yet if they can clinch a series victory in the second of a three-game set against the major league-best Red Sox on Saturday afternoon in Boston. The Mets have already won series against National League playoff hopefuls Philadelphia and Los Angeles in September and improved to 10-3 this month with an 8-0 victory Friday at Fenway Park.
Toronto at NY Yankees 4:05 PM ET
The New York Yankees followed up a lackluster road trip with a laugher to open a long homestand and they'll try to continue to dominate the Toronto Blue Jays when the teams continue their three-game series at Yankee Stadium on Saturday. Andrew McCutchen slugged his first home run in the Bronx while going 3-for-3 and Masahiro Tanaka tossed six scoreless innings in an 11-0 victory over the Blue Jays in the series opener on Friday.
Oakland at Tampa Bay 6:10 PM ET
The Oakland Athletics keep putting the heat on the New York Yankees while moving closer to sealing the American League's second wild-card berth. Oakland is 1 1/2 games behind New York for the first wild card and holds a nine-game lead over Tampa Bay entering Saturday's middle contest of a three-game set with the host Rays.
Chi. White Sox at Baltimore 7:05 PM ET
The Baltimore Orioles hit another low point in their disastrous season, becoming the 15th team in major-league history to lose 105 of their first 147 games. The Chicago White Sox have won two straight following a seven-game slide and look to fatten the Orioles' loss total when the teams resume their three-game series Saturday night in Baltimore.
Miami at Philadelphia 7:05 PM ET
The Philadelphia Phillies needed a win in the worst way in their series opener against the Miami Marlins if they had any realistic hope of remaining in the postseason discussion. They got one in convincing fashion Friday and aim for their first winning streak in September one day later when they continue a three-game home set versus the Marlins.
Arizona at Houston 7:10 PM ET
The Arizona Diamondbacks are hoping a series-opening victory over the Houston Astros will be the tonic to igniting a flurry of wins to end the season. Arizona will visit the Astros again on Saturday for the middle contest of their three-set after ending a stretch of 10 losses in 13 games with a 4-2 triumph on Friday.
Pittsburgh at Milwaukee 7:10 PM ET
The Milwaukee Brewers hope to continue a surge toward their first playoff spot since 2011 when they host the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday night for the second of a three-game set. The Brewers have won nine of their last 11 after a 7-4 victory in the series opener Friday and trail the Chicago Cubs by 1 1/2 games in the National League Central while holding down the first wild-card spot.
Minnesota at Kansas City 7:15 PM ET
Salvador Perez is a major reason the Kansas City Royals won the first two contests of their four-game series against the visiting Minnesota Twins. The All-Star catcher hopes to play a role in another victory when the American League Central rivals continue the set on Saturday.
Texas at San Diego 8:40 PM ET
The Texas Rangers struggled during the first two legs of their trek through California but got off to a good start in their series in the southern part of the state. Texas looks to post back-to-back wins for the first time since the beginning of the month when it visits the San Diego Padres on Saturday for the middle contest of their three-game interleague set.
Colorado at San Francisco 9:05 PM ET
One day after ending the longest losing streak of Bruce Bochy's managerial career, the San Francisco Giants aim for their second straight win Saturday against the visiting Colorado Rockies. The Giants snapped a season-long 11-game losing skid with Friday’s 2-0 victory over Colorado, which saw its lead in the National League West cut to a half-game over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Seattle at LA Angels 9:07 PM ET
The Seattle Mariners have won the first two contests of their 10-game road trip and look to record another triumph when they continue their four-game series against the host Los Angeles Angels on Saturday. Seattle posted a 5-0 victory on Friday but remains a distant 8 1/2 games behind Oakland for the American League's second wild-card berth.
