August 31, 2019
Oakland at NY Yankees 1:05 PM ET
The New York Yankees entered the weekend with the best record in the American League and a commanding lead in the East, but they have yet to solve the Oakland Athletics. The Yankees are 0-4 against Oakland this season - all in the past 11 days - and will try to turn the tables on the Athletics on Saturday afternoon in the second of a three-game set.
Cincinnati at St. Louis 1:15 PM ET
It will be an exceptionally busy weekend at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, where the Cardinals play consecutive doubleheaders against the Cincinnati Reds, beginning with the first twinbill Saturday. The teams were already expected to play a doubleheader Saturday but will now add another pair of games Sunday after Friday's affair was rained out.
Milwaukee at Chi. Cubs 2:20 PM ET
The Milwaukee Brewers likely will welcome roster expansion with open arms on Sunday considering the recent spate of injuries that have ravaged the club. The bandaged-up Brewers would be best served to focus their attention on securing a series victory on Sunday afternoon when they play the rubber match of a three-game set against the host Chicago Cubs.
Milwaukee at Chi. Cubs 2:20 PM ET
The Chicago Cubs aim to produce their second five-game winning streak in a two-week span when they continue a three-game series with the visiting Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday. The Cubs opened the set with a 7-1 victory Friday afternoon to run their current streak to four wins in a row and solidify their hold on the second wild card in the National League.
Houston at Toronto 3:07 PM ET
The Houston Astros put on another offensive show in the series opener and the American League West leaders hope to continue the surge when they visit the struggling Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon. George Springer homered and knocked in four runs in Friday’s 7-4 victory as Houston won for the seventh time in eight games, a stretch in which it has accumulated 65 runs.
NY Mets at Philadelphia 4:05 PM ET
The New York Mets appeared to be fading out of the race in the National League with a six-game losing streak but an impressive win on Friday injected some much-needed positive momentum into the team. The Mets will try to keep the good vibes flowing at the expense of another team trying to stay in the race when they visit the Philadelphia Phillies for the second of a three-game series on Saturday.
Cleveland at Tampa Bay 6:10 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays have strung together critical back-to-back wins against teams in playoff position and look to keep it going when they host the Cleveland Indians for the second of a three-game set Saturday. Jesus Aguilar broke open a tight contest with a three-run blast in the seventh inning as the Rays knocked off the Indians 4-0 on Friday for their fourth victory in the first five games of the season series.
Minnesota at Detroit 6:10 PM ET
Even as they close in on setting the major league record for homers in a single season, the Minnesota Twins showed they are not totally reliant on the long ball. The Twins have won a season high-tying six consecutive games overall and eight straight away from home as they continue their 10-game road trip at the majors-worst Detroit Tigers on Saturday night.
Miami at Washington 7:05 PM ET
The Washington Nationals will have to once again address their bullpen issues before the start of the postseason, but at least the offense is around to carry the team. The Nationals will try to build up a big enough lead to avoid another blown save when they host the Miami Marlins in the second of a three-game series on Saturday night.
Cincinnati at St. Louis 7:15 PM ET
Baltimore at Kansas City 7:15 PM ET
The Baltimore Orioles' pitching staff already has made history with its inability to keep the ball in the park, but its recent efforts suggest better days are ahead. The Orioles attempt to guarantee themselves a season series victory on Saturday, when they continue their three-game set against the host Kansas City Royals.
Chi. White Sox at Atlanta 7:20 PM ET
Ozzie Albies has been one of several Atlanta Braves hitters who have struggled recently, but the second baseman hopes to have broken out of his slump entering Saturday’s home game against the Chicago White Sox. Albies came into Friday’s series opener with just nine hits in his past 65 at-bats but went 4-for-5 with two runs scored, two doubles and a RBI in a 10-7 victory, helping lift the National League East leaders to their 10th victory in the past 12 games.
Seattle at Texas 8:05 PM ET
Nick Solak made his major-league debut less than two weeks ago and has been with the Texas Rangers' organization less than two months, yet he already has left an indelible impression on the club. The University of Louisville product hopes to remain locked in at the plate on Saturday, when the Rangers host the Seattle Mariners for the third contest of their four-game series.
LA Dodgers at Arizona 8:10 PM ET
The Arizona Diamondbacks are making a strong push to stay relevant in the National League wild-card race and can establish their longest winning streak of the year when they continue their four-game series against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday. After taking the opener of the set 11-5, the Diamondbacks survived a see-saw affair on Friday, recording a 5-4 triumph for their fifth consecutive victory.
Pittsburgh at Colorado 8:10 PM ET
The Colorado Rockies conclude a truly dismal month on Saturday when they continue their four-game series against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates. The Rockies have lost 10 of their last 12 and fallen a season-low 18 games under .500, while the Pirates have won six of their last eight.
San Diego at San Francisco 9:05 PM ET
The San Francisco Giants used a 13-hit attack to end their three-game losing streak and look to make it back-to-back wins when they host the San Diego Padres on Saturday. After beginning its six-game homestand with three straight setbacks, San Francisco recorded six extra-base hits en route to an 8-3 triumph on Friday.
Boston at LA Angels 9:07 PM ET
Mookie Betts rescued the Boston Red Sox in the 15th inning of the series opener, and the team hopes to build off that momentum when it visits the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday for the middle contest of their three-game set. The Red Sox squandered a two-run lead in the ninth inning on Friday, but Betts belted his second homer of the game with two outs in the 15th for a 7-6 victory as Boston improved to 5-1 on its eight-game road trip.
