Seattle at Detroit 1:10 PM ET
The Detroit Tigers have not won a series at home since the first week of May but they have a chance to put an end to that drought when they face the Seattle Mariners in the rubber match of a three-game set on Thursday afternoon. The worst home team in the majors at 17-42, the Tigers leveled the series with a 3-2 victory on Wednesday night.
LA Dodgers at Miami 3:05 PM ET
Not many pitchers would nitpick after throwing six shutout innings, but Los Angeles Dodgers' right-hander Walker Buehler is one of them. Buehler, who is 2-1 with a 1.89 ERA in five starts since the All-Star break, takes the ball Thursday afternoon and hopes to do better when Los Angeles tries for an emphatic season series sweep against the host Miami Marlins.
Cleveland at NY Yankees 7:05 PM ET
After beating up on the bottom two teams in the American League East for the last 10 days, the New York Yankees begin a stretch against three playoff contenders with the first of four games against the visiting Cleveland Indians on Thursday night. The Yankees finished off a four-game sweep of Baltimore with a 6-5 victory on Wednesday for a fifth straight victory and 14th in their last 16 contests.
Chi. Cubs at Philadelphia 7:05 PM ET
Charlie Manuel's debut as the Philadelphia Phillies' hitting coach was viewed by the Citizens Bank faithful as an unmitigated success, even if the affable 75-year-old was the first to admit that he had little to do with the club's 11-run, 13-hit outburst. The Phillies will bid to record their first series sweep in seven weeks on Thursday when they conclude a three-game set against the visiting Chicago Cubs.
St. Louis at Cincinnati 7:10 PM ET
The St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds have flipped their respective scripts, as the former answered a five-game skid by winning five in a row while the latter has countered a sterling 10-4 stretch with four consecutive losses. The Cardinals aim to continue their ascent at the expense of their National League Central rival on Thursday in the opener of a four-game series in Cincinnati.
NY Mets at Atlanta 7:20 PM ET
Ender Inciarte struggled through the season’s first six weeks and then missed two months with a back injury, but the Atlanta Braves center fielder continues providing a spark entering Thursday’s home series finale against the New York Mets. Inciarte, whose role has increased during Nick Markakis’ absence, went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in Wednesday’s 6-4 victory to raise his average to .328 with 15 runs scored in 18 games since Markakis fractured his wrist.
Minnesota at Texas 8:05 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins saw their bullpen blow another lead in a rare road loss Wednesday in Milwaukee. They'll try for a quick bounceback effort when they continue a six-game road trip with the first of four contests against the Texas Rangers on Thursday.
San Francisco at Arizona 9:40 PM ET
The San Francisco Giants begin a pivotal nine-game road trip Thursday when they visit the Arizona Diamondbacks in the opener of a four-game set. San Francisco needs to have a solid excursion as it sits a game below .500 and 4 1/2 games behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the National League's second wild-card spot.
Chi. White Sox at LA Angels 10:07 PM ET
James McCann and the Chicago White Sox each had dismal starts to the second half of the season, but the All-Star catcher and his team are starting to come alive this month. After posting a series win over American League West-leading Houston, the White Sox kick off a seven-game road trip with the first of four at the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday night.
Houston at Oakland 10:07 PM ET
Mike Fiers aims to win his 10th consecutive decision when the Oakland Athletics open a four-game home series against the Houston Astros on Thursday. Fiers is unbeaten in his last 17 starts, a stretch that began with a no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds on May 7.
