Preview Roundups
June 02, 2019
San Francisco at Baltimore 1:05 PM ET
The San Francisco Giants could not turn the calendar to June fast enough, putting behind them a dreadful month in which their starting rotation posted the worst ERA in the majors at 7.32 - and the highest mark since the franchise moved to the Bay Area in 1958. The Giants have a chance to win their second series in a month in Sunday's rubber match at the Baltimore Orioles.
Minnesota at Tampa Bay 1:10 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins were humbled in the series opener and now have a chance to leave town with three straight victories when they visit the Tampa Bay Rays for the finale on Sunday afternoon. The American League Central-leading Twins rebounded after being routed 14-3 on Thursday night by rallying for a pair of solid wins after recording 13 hits in a 6-2 triumph on Saturday.
Washington at Cincinnati 1:10 PM ET
The Washington Nationals are trying to climb back into the National League East race, but there's a reason why they are closer to the division cellar than first place. Three-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer will be seeking only his third win of the season as Washington vies for its third straight series win in the rubber match against the host Cincinnati Reds on Sunday afternoon.
Detroit at Atlanta 1:20 PM ET
Austin Riley experienced a May to remember, slugging seven homers in his first 15 career games, and the Atlanta Braves outfielder enters Sunday’s home series finale against the Detroit Tigers after starting June in a familiar way. Riley hit a two-run homer in Saturday’s 10-5 victory, giving the 22-year-old eight homers, 22 RBIs and a 1.150 OPS in 63 at-bats as Atlanta - which plated just 10 runs during a three-game losing streak - scored in each of its final five at-bats.
Milwaukee at Pittsburgh 1:35 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Pirates dropped eight of their final 12 games in May thanks in large part to a host of lackluster efforts from their pitching staff, and their first crack at turning things around in June didn't go any better. The Pirates hope one of their more effective starters this season can stop the bleeding Sunday when they send Jordan Lyles to the mound in an attempt to salvage a split of their four-game series at home with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Cleveland at Chi. White Sox 2:10 PM ET
Carlos Santana led the Cleveland Indians to their first win of the series and hopes to stay hot when they go for a split of the four-game set Sunday afternoon against the host Chicago White Sox. Santana put the Indians ahead for good with a solo homer in Saturday’s 5-2 victory and the first baseman is 8-for-16 with a pair of blasts along with eight RBIs in his last four contests.
Chi. Cubs at St. Louis 2:15 PM ET
The St. Louis Cardinals own their first three-game winning streak in over a month and can lock down their first series sweep since April 22-24 when they conclude their three-game set against the visiting Chicago Cubs on Sunday. After taking the series opener in walk-off fashion, the Cardinals waited out a rain delay of over three hours on Saturday before scoring three times in the sixth inning en route to a 7-4 win.
Kansas City at Texas 3:05 PM ET
The Texas Rangers look to stay hot at home when they host the Kansas City Royals in the finale of a four-game series Sunday afternoon, but they may be forced to do so without a key bat. Slugger Joey Gallo homered in Saturday's 6-2 win but later left the game due oblique tightness, an injury that could force him to the injured list.
Toronto at Colorado 3:10 PM ET
With the Los Angeles Dodgers sporting the best record in the National League and threatening to take a double-digit lead in the NL West, the Colorado Rockies badly needed to take advantage of an extended stay at home against a trio of struggling opponents. The Rockies have done exactly that and attempt to tie their best mark during a 10-game homestand Sunday when they go for a three-game sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays.
Houston at Oakland 4:07 PM ET
The Houston Astros attempt to complete a three-game sweep when they visit the Oakland Athletics on Sunday for the finale of their series. Houston claimed a 5-1 decision on Saturday for its fourth win in five overall contests as Justin Verlander passed Cy Young on the all-time strikeout list while Josh Reddick homered for the second straight day against his former team.
Philadelphia at LA Dodgers 4:10 PM ET
The Los Angeles Dodgers have won a major league-high 40 games this season behind a potent offense and a rotation that always seems to deliver. Los Angeles leads the National League in runs scored and its starters are 14-1 with a 1.86 ERA in the last 19 contests as the team tries to complete a three-game sweep of the visiting Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday.
NY Mets at Arizona 4:10 PM ET
After snapping a season high-tying five-game losing streak in improbable fashion, the Arizona Diamondbacks try for a series victory over the visiting New York Mets on Sunday. Arizona erased four-run deficits in the seventh and eighth innings before Tim Locastro's deep walk-off single in the 11th gave the Diamondbacks a 6-5 victory - only their fourth in the last 14 games.
LA Angels at Seattle 4:10 PM ET
The best player in baseball is beginning to heat up again, and the Los Angeles Angels are reaping the benefits. Mike Trout will try to homer for the third straight game and lead the Angels to a series win when they visit the Seattle Mariners for the finale of a four-game set on Sunday.
Miami at San Diego 6:10 PM ET
After finishing last in the league in runs in April and May, the Miami Marlins got off to a good start in June. The Marlins look to build off their offensive outburst when they visit the San Diego Padres on Sunday for the rubber match of their three-game series.
Boston at NY Yankees 7:05 PM ET
The New York Yankees are making sure they won't have to worry about the rival Boston Red Sox sneaking up on them in the American League East. The Yankees will try to polish off a three-game sweep and push their lead over the Red Sox to double figures when they host the finale of a rain-shortened, three-game series on Sunday.
