Preview Roundups
April 19, 2019
Arizona at Chi. Cubs 2:20 PM ET

A matchup with one of the majors’ worst teams helped the Chicago Cubs turn around their slow start, but now they have to face another team on the upswing. The surging Cubs host the equally hot Arizona Diamondbacks for a three-game series beginning Friday.

Kansas City at NY Yankees 7:05 PM ET

If the New York Yankees hoped their injury-ravaged roster could turn things around by taking advantage of nine straight home games against teams with losing records, they can't be happy with their performance more than halfway through the homestand. The Yankees hope to bounce back from an uninspiring effort when they host the Kansas City Royals on Friday for the second contest of their four-game series.

San Francisco at Pittsburgh 7:05 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Pirates look to win their fourth consecutive contest overall and fifth in a row at PNC Park on Friday when they open a three-game set against the San Francisco Giants. The Pirates benefited from an off day on Thursday after working overtime on six occasions already this season, with the team improving to 4-2 after winning a pair of 10-inning decisions in their last two games.
Minnesota at Baltimore 7:05 PM ET
The rebuilding Baltimore Orioles have played some surprisingly good baseball on the road and will try to carry that success into their second homestand of the year, beginning Friday against the Minnesota Twins. The Orioles improved to 7-6 on the road - compared to 1-6 in Baltimore - with a 6-5 victory in 11 innings at MLB-best Tampa Bay on Thursday.
Boston at Tampa Bay 7:10 PM ET
The reigning World Series champion Boston Red Sox hope to begin recovering from their championship hangover when they visit the major league-best Tampa Bay Rays on Friday for the opener of their three-game series. The Red Sox have dropped their last three contests and 13 of 19 to open the season after coughing up a two-run lead in the seventh inning of a 5-3 loss to the New York Yankees on Wednesday.
Atlanta at Cleveland 7:10 PM ET
Things are looking up for the Cleveland Indians, who open a three-game home interleague series Friday against the Atlanta Braves leading the American League Central after winning three straight at Seattle, and one of their star players is close to making his season debut. Shortstop Francisco Lindor, sidelined with a strained right calf and an ankle injury since spring training, was scheduled to rejoin the team after three Triple-A rehab games and could be activated as soon as this weekend.
Washington at Miami 7:10 PM ET
The Washington Nationals have yet to win three games in a row this season but they have a chance to end that streak when they open a three-game set at the Miami Marlins on Friday night. The six-game road trip offers a chance to build some momentum for Washington, which has won two straight and will face a pair of last-place clubs in Miami and Colorado.
Chi. White Sox at Detroit 7:10 PM ET
After suffering back-to-back home losses in 10 innings, the Detroit Tigers needed to survive a back-and-forth offensive duel against the Chicago White Sox on Thursday to finally put an end to their five-game losing streak. Seeking to move back above .500, the Tigers resume their six game homestand with the second of four against the White Sox on Friday night.
Houston at Texas 8:05 PM ET
The Houston Astros had a 10-game winning streak come to an end in a 2-1 loss to the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday but are back on top in the American League West. The Astros will be looking for some revenge against the last team to beat them in a series when they visit the Texas Rangers in the opener of a three-game set Friday.
LA Dodgers at Milwaukee 8:10 PM ET
The Los Angeles Dodgers look to extend the longest active winning streak in the major leagues to six games when they visit the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday for the second contest of their four-game series. Cody Bellinger hit his 10th home run of the campaign and Max Muncy added a two-run shot as Los Angeles posted a 3-1 victory on Thursday.
NY Mets at St. Louis 8:15 PM ET
The New York Mets dropped four of their last five games after a hot start and are happy to be taking a break from the National League East. The Mets will take a brief step away from divisional competition when they visit the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday in the opener of a three-game series.
Philadelphia at Colorado 8:40 PM ET
Ryan McMahon announced his return in a big way in the series opener and will look for a repeat performance on Friday, when the Colorado Rockies continue their four-game set against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies. McMahon came off the injured list and registered two home runs and five RBIs in Thursday’s 6-2 victory as the Rockies won their fourth straight contest.
Seattle at LA Angels 10:07 PM ET
The Seattle Mariners are a major league-best 9-1 on the road as they enter the second contest of their four-game series against the Los Angeles Angels on Friday. Seattle snapped its six-game losing streak - all at home - with an 11-10 marathon win over the Angels in Thursday's opener.
Toronto at Oakland 10:07 PM ET
Khris Davis led the majors with 48 homers in 2018 and holds the early advantage out of the gate this season with 10 to go along with 20 RBIs. The 31-year-old slugger hit another homer by striking a two-year contract for a reported $33.5 million heading into the Oakland Athletics' opener of a three-game series versus the visiting Toronto Blue Jays on Friday.
Cincinnati at San Diego 10:10 PM ET
The road had not been kind to the Cincinnati Reds prior to their series opener against the Padres in San Diego. Cincinnati looks to make it two road wins in a row after dropping its first seven away from home when it visits San Diego on Friday.
