Mikko Rantanen registered a goal and two assists for the Colorado Avalanche, who scored three times in 4:10 during the third period to rally past the Calgary Flames 6-5 on Monday in Denver.

Colorado's Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar and Ross Colton each had a goal and an assist. Tomas Tatar and Ben Meyers also scored, and Valeri Nichushkin had two assists. Avalanche backup goalie Ivan Prosvetov turned away all 11 shots he faced in relief of Alexandar Georgiev, who stopped 17 of 22 shots.

Nazem Kadri and Blake Coleman had a goal and an assist apiece, Andrew Mangiapane, Connor Zary and Yegor Sharangovich also scored, Dennis Gilbert had two assists and Dan Vladar made 31 saves for Calgary.

Colorado trailed 5-3 entering the third period but stormed back. Colton made it 5-4 at 11:20, his eighth goal of the season, and Rantanen's 13th of the campaign tied it at 13:31.

MacKinnon capped the rally with a breakaway goal at 15:30, his 12th goal of the season.

The Flames took a 1-0 lead on Kadri's seventh goal of the season at 13:46 of the first period, but Tatar tied it when he got his first of the season at 18:14 of the opening frame.

The teams combined for six goals in the second period.

Makar's power-play goal at 1:43, his eighth marker of the season, gave the Avalanche a 2-1 lead.

Mangiapane tied it at 5:14 when he got a pass from Kadri from below the net and beat Georgiev with a wrister. It was his sixth goal of the season.

Coleman gave Calgary a 3-2 lead when he scored on a wrist shot from the top of the left circle at 13:21, his eighth marker of the season. Colorado got even again when Meyers beat Vladar high at 14:57. It was his first goal of the season.

The Flames answered soon after when Zary knocked the puck out of the air and by Georgiev at 16:19, his sixth goal of the campaign. Sharangovich gave the visitors a 5-3 lead when he scored his seventh of the season at 18:34.

Prosvetov took over in net to start the third period.
