The Bruins scored four times in the first period in a 5-1 win against the host Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday.

Patrice Bergeron and David Pastrnak each had a goal and an assist for the Bruins, who won for the fifth time in their past seven games.

The first goal of the game was scored by the Sabres' Kyle Okposo, and Aaron Dell allowed four goals on 22 shots before Dustin Tokarski replaced him to start the second period. Tokarski made 21 saves in relief. Buffalo has lost four straight.

Okposo made it 1-0 Sabres at 10:56 of the first period. After Dell came up with a save on Pastrnak at the other end, Okposo drove down the left side before using Bergeron as a screen to score short side on Jeremy Swayman.

Bergeron tied it 1-1 at 13:29. Dell made the save on his initial shot but couldn't smother the puck and, with a scramble in front of the net, the puck popped out to the left side of the net where an uncovered Bergeron backhanded it into the open net.

Coyle put the Bruins ahead 51 seconds later with a short side shot from the right circle that went top shelf to make it 2-1.

Pastrnak extended it to 3-1 on the power play, blasting a one-timer from the left circle at 16:59.

The three goals were scored in a span of 3:30.

Mike Reilly pushed the lead to 4-1 at 19:00. Dell made the save a point shot but couldn't control the rebound, which bounced out to the left circle and Reilly pounced on it with a wide-open net.

Sabres forward Zemgus Girgensons was given a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct for a hit on defenseman Charlie McAvoy at 13:46 of the third period.

Taylor Hall made it 5-1 at 15:26 on the ensuing power play.
