Trevor Zegras' second goal of the game came with 45.1 seconds remaining in overtime, and the host Anaheim Ducks posted their eighth straight victory and the 1,000th in franchise history, a 3-2 win over the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night.

It was one of two milestones for the Ducks on the night, as Ryan Getzlaf tallied his 1,000th career point.

In the waning seconds of overtime, Zegras went top shelf to beat Capitals goaltender Vitek Vanecek (28 saves) and give Anaheim its longest winning streak since an 11-game run from 2015-16. The Ducks have also won six straight at home.

Washington, which had won four in a row, trailed 2-1 late in the third period when Tom Wilson deflected John Carlson's shot down and through the legs of Anaheim goaltender John Gibson (28 saves) with 2:32 left in regulation.

The Capitals had previously tied the game at 1-1 just 5:36 into the third period, through Garrett Pilon's redirection of Martin Fehervary's shot for his first NHL goal. However, the Ducks answered at the halfway mark of the third when Zegras took Sonny Milano's backhanded flip pass and beat Vanecek through the five hole.

Getzlaf's milestone point came 3:32 into the contest when the 36-year-old veteran, who has spent his entire 17-year career with the Ducks, pushed the puck from the near boards off the far side. All alone as he streaked into the Washington zone, teammate Cam Fowler picked up the puck and drove it past Vanecek for a 1-0 Anaheim lead, sparking a mass on-ice celebration with Getzlaf in the middle of the scene.

The Ducks' Troy Terry picked up the secondary assist on the play to extend his point streak to 15 games with his career-high 21st point of the season.

Washington thought it tied the game less than two minutes later, but Nick Jensen's goal was overturned via review when the play was ruled offside.

Capitals star Alex Ovechkin entered with 12 goals in 15 games, but was held to just one shot on the night. Meanwhile, Carlson and Fehervary each recorded two assists.
