Carolina's Martin Necas scored the game-winner in overtime as the Hurricanes rallied to beat the host Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 on Tuesday night.

Late in the extra session, Necas skated in on Victor Hedman, stopped to let the big defenseman go by, and snapped home the winning marker past Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy at 3:26.

It was the second straight season the Czech center beat the Lightning in overtime.

Brady Skjei's potential game-winner at 1:39 of overtime for Carolina was overturned when it was ruled that Vincent Trocheck was offside.

Carolina's Teuvo Teravainen scored, while Trocheck, Andrei Svechnikov, Sebastian Aho and Tony DeAngelo posted helpers.

Following Saturday's poor showing against Florida when he allowed four goals, Frederik Andersen made 17 saves for the Hurricanes, who are 4-0-0 in one-goal games.

Steven Stamkos notched his seventh tally to tie him for the team lead with Alex Killorn, and Mathieu Joseph and Killorn recorded assists for Tampa Bay, which produced a season-low 18 shots on goal.

Vasilevskiy returned in goal after having last game off and stopped 29 of the 31 shots he faced.

With little offense produced in the first nine minutes, the clubs traded power plays in the middle of the first period, but each penalty-kill unit stood strong to keep goals off the board.

In an opening 20 minutes, the most troubling part of the Lightning's game was that they generated little offense -- firing just three shots on goal and not putting one on net over the last 11:09 of the frame despite two man-advantages.

In the second, Carolina went on an extended five-on-three power play -- for 95 seconds -- and had even more of an advantage when Necas' blast struck Vasilevskiy's left skate blade on a save and knocked it behind the goal. However, the Lightning shut it down to keep the game scoreless.

On Tampa Bay's sixth shot on goal, Joseph outworked DeAngelo in the corner, wheeled through the right circle with the puck and delivered a pass that Stamkos powered home on a one-timer at the nine-minute mark.

However, on Carolina's fifth power play, Trocheck sent a blind pass in front of Vasilevskiy's cage and Teravainen buried it for his third goal and a 1-1 tie at 9:56 of the third that held through regulation.

Defenseman Mikhail Sergachev completed his two-game suspension for an illegal check to the head of Toronto Maple Leafs right wing Mitchell Marner.
