On a night the Arizona Coyotes retired the No. 19 of Shane Doan, they showed some of the same grit their former captain displayed during his 21-year career.

Brad Richardson, Lawson Crouse, Clayton Keller and Josh Archibald scored as the Coyotes opened a seven-game homestand by defeating the Winnipeg Jets 4-1 Sunday night in Glendale, Ariz.

Goaltender Darcy Kuemper made 34 saves for the Coyotes, who have won six of their past eight games, allowing two goals or fewer in each of those victories, to move within three points of the Western Conference's final wild-card playoff berth. Kuemper is 11-3-2 since Jan. 6.

Patrik Laine scored for Winnipeg, which remained one point ahead of Nashville atop the Central Division. Goalie Laurent Brossoit stopped 20 of 23 shots in losing in regulation for just the fourth time in 15 starts.

The Jets have lost four of their past five games (1-3-1).

Laine, who snapped a 15-game drought with two power-play goals Friday in a 6-3 victory at Las Vegas, opened the scoring at 2:11 of the first period on the man advantage.

Laine took a pass from Blake Wheeler just below the left faceoff dot, nearly the same spot from which he scored both his goals against the Golden Knights, and put a one-timer past Kuemper.

Richardson tied it at 5:43 of the first on a Doan-like goal.

Richardson got the puck at the top of the slot, but his first shot was blocked by a defenseman. He persevered and corralled the rebound and hammered it past Brossoit.

The Coyotes took the lead at 7:40 of the second with a bit of luck.

Crouse split two defenders to get to the net and shot a backhander that Brossoit stopped. But the puck bounced off Jets defenseman Ben Chiarot and into the net.

Keller snapped a 13-game drought at 13:46 of the second, taking a pass from Alex Galchenyuk at the blue line and skating wide of a defenseman before scoring a wrist shot from the top of the faceoff circles.

Archibald capped the scoring with an empty-netter at 19:29 of the third.
