Johnny Gaudreau scored a goal and assisted on Sean Monahan's game-winner as the host Calgary Flames beat the New York Rangers 4-3 Thursday night to snap a two-game losing skid.

Former Rangers goaltender Cam Talbot made 24 saves for the Flames, who also ended a five-game home losing skid.

Three times through the first two periods the Flames took a lead in a roller coaster of a game, including the game winner. With the score tied, Monahan finished off a three-way passing play at the 8:22 mark of the middle frame.

Calgary took a 2-0 lead thanks to breakaway goals that came three minutes apart by Gaudreau and Mikael Backlund. Gaudreau opened the scoring when he pounced on an errant Rangers pass that went to the neutral zone and buried a backhand at the 4:15 mark.

Backlund followed with a short-handed tally, which he created by intercepting a pass in his own zone and then also converted a backhander.

Jacob Trouba and Filip Chytil replied with power-play goals 25 seconds apart to even the score. Trouba buried a wrist shot from just beyond the left face-off dot at 7:42, and Chytil pounced on a rebound soon after to make it a 2-2 score.

Derek Ryan restored Calgary's lead when Dillon Dube created a turnover and passed to Ryan in the slot, and his shot ricocheted off a defender into the net 13:18 into the game.

The Rangers again evened the count, thanks to Kaapo Kakko's long shot that made it through a maze of players at 5:46 of the second period.

Adam Fox, who was originally drafted by the Flames but traded away when it became obvious he wouldn't sign with them, collected three assists for the Rangers.

Henrik Lundqvist stopped 25 shots for the Rangers, who have lost two straight and finish a four-game road trip Saturday in Vancouver.
