PENGUINS 5, DEVILS 2: Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin were among five players with a goal and an assist apiece as Pittsburgh topped New Jersey to extend its home winning streak to 10 games.

Chris Kunitz, Jordan Staal and Pascal Dupuis also scored a goal and set up another while Marc-Andre Fleury made 32 saves for the Penguins, who improved to 14-1-1 in their last 16 contests. Pittsburgh climbed within one point of the New York Rangers for first place in the Eastern Conference.

With the Penguins leading 3-1 after 40 minutes, Ilya Kovalchuk converted a pass from Travis Zajac just over 3 1/2 minutes into the third to get the Devils within one. Zajac was in the lineup for the first time since Jan. 2 due to an Achilles tendon injury.

Crosby restored the two-goal advantage 78 seconds later when he broke in alone from the top of the slot and beat Devils netminder Martin Brodeur low to the stick side. The captain has collected 13 points in seven games since returning from concussion-like symptoms.

Malkin, who leads the NHL with 97 points, sealed the win with an empty-net goal late in the third. It was the 46th tally for Malkin, who trails Tampa Bay's Steven Stamkos by six for the league lead.

Brodeur turned aside 23 shots for the Devils, who have scored two goals or less in six straight road contests. New Jersey, which has lost five of seven overall and four of six away from home, remained six points behind fifth-place Philadelphia in the Eastern Conference.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Staal's goal was his 23rd this season, his highest total since scoring 29 as a rookie in 2006-07. ... New Jersey has lost five of its last six visits to Pittsburgh. ... The Devils are four points ahead of Ottawa for sixth in the conference. ... Malkin, who was kept off the scoresheet in Saturday's loss to Ottawa, has gone two games without a point only three times this season. He has registered eight goals and eight assists over his last eight contests.
