HURRICANES 4, CAPITALS 3 (OT): Justin Faulk scored at 3:38 of overtime and visiting Carolina beat Washington for the third straight time.

Cam Ward turned aside 46 shots and Brandon Sutter had a goal and an assist as the Hurricanes rebounded from a 2-0 deficit to send the struggling Capitals to their third consecutive defeat.

Jiri Tlusty and Chad LaRose also scored goals and Tim Gleason added a pair of assists to help Carolina salvage the season series at three games apiece.

Brooks Laich scored with 2:52 left in regulation to force overtime for Washington, which had lost three straight at home after being shutout in its previous two games.

Troy Brouwer and Jay Beagle also scored for the Capitals, who remained five points behind Southeast Division-leading Florida.

Hurricanes captain Eric Staal assisted on Tlusty's goal, extending his points streak to 12 games - the longest since the franchise relocated to Carolina in 1997.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Staal's points streak matches the league high this season set by John Tavares of the New York Islanders. He also set a franchise record by notching an assist in his 11th straight game, eclipsing Dave Keon's mark in 1979, and reached 40 assists for the sixth time in eight seasons. ... It was the sixth consecutive one-goal game for Carolina. ... Washington had been blanked in its two previous meetings with Carolina by a combined 8-0 score. ... Beagle had a second goal waved off at the end of the second period when the horn sounded before the puck crossed the line.
