JETS 7, PANTHERS 0: Evander Kane recorded two goals and two assists and Ondrej Pavelec turned aside 33 shots for his 10th career shutout as Winnipeg tied a franchise record with five third-period goals in a rout of visiting Florida.

Kyle Wellwood and Blake Wheeler added a goal and an assist each for the Jets, who moved within two points of first-place Florida in the Southeast Division. It was the Jets’ first regulation victory in five tries against the Panthers this season.

Jim Slater, Bryan Little and Nik Antropov also scored for Winnipeg, which improved to 4-1-2 during an eight-game homestand. Mark Stuart had two assists.

Pavelec, who made 17 saves in the second period, earned his fourth shutout of the season and improved to 4-1-1 in his last six starts.

Kane stole the puck from Florida defenseman Keaton Ellerby and beat goaltender Jose Theodore just 4:01 into the game. Kane has 26 goals and extended his point streak to eight games.

Slater, who had gone 20 games without a goal, popped a loose puck into an open net 2:02 later for a 2-0 lead after Theodore was knocked down by Panthers’ defenseman Ed Jovanovski.

Antropov and Kane scored 12 seconds apart in the third period.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Winnipeg is now 20-10-4 at home. … Florida failed in its fourth attempt this season for its first four-game win streak since March of 2008. … Winnipeg defenseman Zach Bogosian returned to the lineup after missing seven games with various injuries. … Florida was without leading scorer Kris Versteeg (lower-body injury).
