Justin Herbert threw for 366 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Los Angeles Chargers to a 34-28 victory against the winless New York Jets on Sunday in Inglewood, Calif.

Keenan Allen caught a franchise-record 16 passes for 145 yards and a touchdown for the Chargers (3-7).

Herbert became the first NFL rookie to throw at least three touchdowns in five or more games. He was 37 of 49 overall without an interception.

Joe Flacco completed 15 of 30 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns for the Jets (0-10), who extended their longest single-season losing streak in franchise history.

Los Angeles built a 31-13 lead on Herbert's third touchdown pass of the game, a 13-yarder to Allen, with 5:33 left in the third quarter.

The Jets added two late touchdowns before the Chargers gave up an intentional safety with one second left for the final margin.

The Chargers quickly fell behind after surrendering a blocked punt on the opening drive of the game for the second consecutive week.

La'Mical Perine scored on a 5-yard run for the Jets, but Sam Ficken followed with one the first of his two missed extra-point attempts to keep the score 6-0.

Allen then lost a fumble inside the New York 5-yard line, but Flacco was intercepted by Chargers cornerback Tevaughn Campbell, who returned it 6 yards for a touchdown and a 7-6 lead.

Herbert threw touchdown passes on the next two Los Angeles drives to extend the lead to 21-6.

Mike Williams caught a 39-yard strike, and tight end Hunter Henry followed with a 2-yard touchdown reception, marking the seventh consecutive game Herbert has thrown multiple touchdowns, which extended his NFL rookie record.

Herbert threw for 277 yards overall in the first half, the most by a rookie quarterback since 1991.

After struggling during the opening half, Flacco connected with Breshad Perriman on a 49-yard touchdown pass on the first drive of the third quarter, cutting the lead to 24-13.

Herbert came back with the 13-yard touchdown pass to Allen to push the lead back to 18.

Earlier in the drive, Allen caught his 600th career pass in his 96th NFL game, matching Antonio Brown as the only players to reach that milestone in that span in league history.

Allen shared the previous single-game record of 15 receptions (reached in 2015) with Austin Ekeler (2019) and Hall of Famer Kellen Winslow (1984).
