Andrew Luck threw a pair of touchdown passes and the Indianapolis defense kept the host Washington Redskins out of the end zone in a 21-9 Colts win at FedEx Field on Sunday.

After surrendering 34 points to the Bengals in Week 1, the Colts contained Alex Smith and company. Smith passed for 292 yards, but Washington was 5-for-15 on third down and 0-for-2 in the red zone.

Washington running back Adrian Peterson, who ran for 96 yards in Week 1, was held to 20 yards on 11 carries and the Redskins gained just 65 yards on the ground.

Luck completed 21 of 31 passes for 179 yards and was intercepted twice. Wide receiver T.Y. Hilton had seven catches for 83 yards and a touchdown and running back Jordan Wilkins had 10 carries for 61 yards.

Washington running back Chris Thompson had 13 catches for 92 yards.

Dustin Hopkins' 49-yard field goal pulled Washington to within 14-9 early in the fourth quarter, but Luck led the Colts on a 13-play, 75-yard drive that took five minutes, 56 seconds off the clock and ended with a 3-yard pass from Luck to Hilton with 7:32 remaining.

On Washington's next drive, tight end Jordan Reed lost a fumble at the Indianapolis 21-yard line.

The Colts took the opening kickoff and marched 75 yards on 11 plays. Luck capped the drive with a 7-yard pass to Eric Ebron.

After Washington got on the board with a second-quarter field goal, Indianapolis answered with a touchdown. Rookie running back Nyheim Hines finished another 75-yard drive when he went up the middle, executed a spin move and dove across the goal-line for an 8-yard touchdown run.

Washington, which has not scored a touchdown since getting three in the first half at Arizona last week, trailed 14-3 at halftime.

Safety D.J. Swearinger's second interception of the day set the Redskins up at the Colts' 29 midway through the third quarter but Washington had to settle for Hopkins' 27-yard field goal.
