Where: Reser Stadium, Corvallis, Oregon

Marred in its second two-game losing streak of the season, USC welcomes back starting quarterback JT Daniels for Saturday night's road game at Oregon State. And the Trojans will also have a new play-caller on the sidelines when they take on a Beavers' squad that has won four of the last five meetings between the schools in Corvallis.

USC head coach Clay Helton, no doubt feeling the heat after back-to-back losses at Utah (41-28) and at home to Arizona State (38-35) last Saturday, announced on Monday that he has taken over play-calling duties from offensive coordinator Tee Martin, a job he had before taking over as interim head coach for Ed Orgeron, who had replaced Lane Kiffin earlier in the season, for the Las Vegas Bowl in 2013. "When I first took the (head coaching) job, I knew how big the job was at USC," Helton explained to reporters. "I wanted to be able to get comfortable in my own skin as a head coach. Now being third year in, I know the groundwork, I know where everything lays and feel extremely comfortable to be able to lead an offense as well as a team. It's something that I've wanted to do." Oregon State comes in off a 41-34 overtime victory at Colorado, its first road victory since Oct. 4, 2014, a span of 22 games, and also the Beavers' first win in Pac-12 play in 14 games.

TV: 10 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1. LINE: USC -16.5

ABOUT USC (4-4, 3-3 Pac-12 South): Helton also axed offensive line coach Neil Callaway and moved running backs coach Tim Drevno to that spot, but the bigger news was the return of Daniels from concussion protocol on Tuesday as well as several other injured starters; right tackle Chuma Edoga (knee), linebacker Cameron Smith (hamstring, knee), safety Marvell Tell (stinger), and corner Olaijah Griffin (shoulder). Barring a setback in practice, Daniels, who has completed 124-of-218 passes for 1,629 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions, will start Saturday. A healthy Smith, a four-year starter who has 327 career tackles, and Tell, a first team All-Pac-12 performer in 2017, could go a long way toward helping fix a defense that has allowed 79 points in its last two games and ranks eighth in the conference in total defense allowing 395.1 yards per outing.

ABOUT OREGON STATE (2-6, 1-4 Pac-12 North): The Beavers rallied from being down 31-3 early in the third quarter to force overtime and then win it at Colorado, the team's first victory over an FBS opponent since the end of the 2016 season. "I think it's big in regards to you don't have to answer questions about it anymore," first-year head coach Jonathan Smith said. "Kids don't have to read about it anymore." Senior quarterback Jake Luton, sidelined for four games with an ankle injury, came off the bench to lead the comeback and garnered Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honors after completing 28-of-39 passes for 310 yards and three TDs while true freshman running back Jermar Jefferson finished with 135 yards rushing on 35 carries.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Jefferson ranks third nationally in total rushing yards (1,034) to go with 12 touchdowns and is Oregon State's first 1,000-yard rusher since Jacquizz Rodgers in 2010.

2. USC sophomore WR Tyler Vaughns leads the Pac-12 in yards per receptions (20.8) and punt return average (11.1).

3. Oregon State ranks last in the Pac-12 in both sacks by (seven) and sacks against (4.5) per game).
