Junior quarterback Clayton Tune accounted for five touchdowns to lead Houston to a 56-21 home win over South Florida in an American Athletic Conference game on Saturday.

Tune went 14-of-25 passing for 165 yards and three touchdowns and carried the ball 10 times for 120 yards and two touchdowns.

Houston opened the scoring in the first minute of the game, taking the opening kickoff and going up 7-0 on a 28-yard touchdown pass from Tune to junior wideout Bryson Smith.

Later in the first quarter, Tune scored on a 26-yard touchdown run with 2:05 left in the first to give the Cougars (3-3, 3-2 AAC) a 14-0 lead.

Tune then scored on a 13-yard touchdown run with 10:06 remaining in the second quarter and hit senior Keith Corbin for a 33-yard touchdown pass with 7:16 left until halftime to give Houston a 28-0 lead.

The Cougars took a 35-0 lead 1:09 into the second half when junior Marcus Jones returned a punt 72 yards for a touchdown.

Houston then scored another non-offensive touchdown, taking a 42-0 lead with 6:07 left in the third quarter on an 85-yard fumble return for a touchdown by junior linebacker Derek Parish, who caught a fumble in midair after senior teammate David Anenih hit South Florida freshman quarterback Katravis Marsh just before he released the ball.

South Florida (1-7, 0-6) finally got on the board with 3:37 left in the third quarter on a 2-yard touchdown run by freshman running back Leonard Parker.

The Bulls then made it a 42-14 game with 11:50 remaining on a 2-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Jordan McCloud to freshman Omarion Dollison, and then closed within 42-21 with 10:22 left on a 38-yard interception return for a touchdown by junior Bentlee Sanders.

Houston put the game away after that, driving down the field and taking a 49-21 lead with 5:35 to go on a 6-yard touchdown pass from Tune to junior Christian Trahan.
