Will Howard connected with fellow freshman Deuce Vaughn for a 70-yard touchdown to seal Kansas State's 31-21 victory over Texas Tech on Saturday.

Vaughn rushed for a career-high 113 yards and accounted for 194 of the Wildcats' 404 total yards in the game.

Kansas State (2-1, 2-0 Big 12) let a two-touchdown halftime lead get away before scoring the final 14 points of the contest.

Both starting quarterbacks had to leave the game with injuries in the first half, and both came as a result of defensive penalties.

Texas Tech's Alan Bowman left after getting hit to the knee, while Kansas State's Skylar Thompson departed with an apparent shoulder injury after being the victim of a targeting call.

The Wildcats' first score was set up by a blocked punt, marking the third straight game that they have blocked a kick. Thompson found Briley Moore for a 12-yard touchdown.

Vaughn capped Kansas State's next drive with back-to-back runs of 20 and 18 yards, the latter for a touchdown that put the Wildcats up 14-0. Texas Tech (1-2, 0-2) was held scoreless in the first half for the first time since 2011.

The Red Raiders got on the board in the third quarter with an 18-play, 88-yard drive that took 6:55 off the clock. The 18-play drive was the longest for Texas Tech since 2017.

Backup quarterback Henry Colombi hit KeSean Carter with a 3-yard touchdown pass for the score.

Colombi finished 30-of-42 for 244 yards and two touchdowns.

After Blake Lynch 28-yard field goal gave Kansas State a 10-point lead, Texas Tech responded quickly with four-play, 84-yard drive, capped by a 49-yard run by Xavier White.

Colombi then led a seven-play, 74-yard drive, capped by a pass to Myles Price to give the Red Raiders their first lead of the game.

Kansas State responded with a quick drive. Harry Trotter scored from 4 yards out after Howard hit Moore for a 66-yard gain to set it up. Then, with a third-and-5 and Tech out of timeouts, Howard hit Vaughn must beyond first-down yardage and Vaughn took it from there.
