Journey Brown rushed for 103 yards and three touchdowns and No. 10 Penn State broke open a close game in the second half on its way to a 27-6 win over visiting Rutgers on Saturday in University Park, Pa.

Backup quarterback Will Levis received his first career start in place of injured Sean Clifford and rushed for 108 yards while throwing for 81 and one touchdown.

The Nittany Lions (10-2, 7-2 Big Ten) won their regular-season finale as their senior class picked up its 41st win in four years.

Rutgers (2-10, 0-9) provided a challenge for much of the way.

Freshman quarterback Johnny Langan was 12 of 24 for 164 yards.

In a surprisingly tight first half, Penn State led only 7-3.

The Scarlet Knights went ahead 3-0 when Justin Davidovicz kicked a 29-yard field goal with 3:32 left in the first quarter. The Nittany Lions took a 7-3 advantage with six seconds remaining in the first as Brown scored on a tough 2-yard plunge.

Rutgers, which was shut out 27-0 by Michigan State last week, managed another impressive drive with six first downs before the end of the half. But Davidovicz missed a 35-yard field goal wide right with two seconds remaining after a drive that started at the Rutgers 2.

Rutgers led 243-129 in total yards in the first half.

Brown scored for the second time on an 18-yard scamper with 12:05 left in the third as he picked up his ninth rushing touchdown of the season. The extra point was blocked and the Nittany Lions held a 13-3 advantage.

Davidovicz drilled a 38-yard field goal five seconds into the fourth to close Rutgers within 13-6.

The Nittany Lions extended their lead on their next drive as Levis tossed a 44-yard touchdown to Jahan Dotson for a 20-6 advantage with 12:16 remaining.

Brown added his third rushing touchdown from 1 yard out with 5:13 left for a 27-6 lead.
