Skylar Thompson rushed for 131 yards and three touchdowns and passed for 129 yards Saturday as No. 22 Kansas State smothered host Kansas 38-10 in the first sellout since 2009 in Lawrence, Kan.

The Big 12 matchup marked the second time the in-state rivals clashed with first-year head coaches, and the first time since 1986. Playing for Chris Klieman, the Wildcats won their 11th straight in the series, tying their longest streak.

Playing without leading rusher James Gilbert, Kansas State (6-2, 3-2 Big 12) still powered for 342 yards on the ground. Louisville transfer Harry Trotter, a third-stringer, gained 93 yards on 20 carries with one touchdown.

Only its own lack of execution prevented Kansas State from scoring more points. The Wildcats, who became bowl eligible, were penalized 11 times for 113 yards. They crossed into Kansas territory eight times, generated 471 total yards and went 5 of 5 in the red zone.

Early in the fourth quarter, Kansas State capitalized on fourth-down stops in Kansas territory after gambles by Jayhawks coach Les Miles. The Wildcats quickly converted both moves into touchdowns on runs of 4 and 14 yards by Thompson and Tyler Burns.

The Jayhawks (3-6, 1-5), coming off two straight 500-yard performances, as well as a win last week over Texas Tech to end an eight-game Big 12 losing streak, managed just 241 yards. They converted just one third down in the first three quarters and scored their only TD inside the final minute.

Kansas quarterback Carter Stanley passed for 115 yards and was sacked four times. Running back Pooka Williams gained 61 yards.

Kansas State used 10-play marches to score touchdowns on its first two first-half possessions and took a 17-3 lead by halftime.

Kansas gained just 74 yards in the first half, going three-and-out twice while Stanley threw interceptions to begin two other drives. The second pick, by Kansas State linebacker Da'Quan Patton, came with 1:25 left and set up a 39-yard field goal by Blake Lynch as time expired.
