True freshman Breece Hall ran for three touchdowns and Iowa State won its ninth consecutive October game, knocking off West Virginia 38-14 on Saturday in Morgantown, W. Va.

Hall, who entered the game with 84 yards and no TDs on 18 carries, ran for 132 yards on 26 carries. His 12-yard run with 9:39 left in the third quarter gave Iowa State (4-2, 2-1 Big 12) the lead for good, while a 1-yard score on the first play of the second quarter tied the contest at 7.

A second 1-yard TD with 1:42 left made him the second Cyclone to rush for three scores in a game this season, along with quarterback Brock Purdy against Louisiana-Monroe on Sept. 21.

Iowa State outscored the West Virginia 24-0 after halftime, limiting the Mountaineers to 44 yards in the second half and 190 for the game.

West Virginia (3-3, 1-2) led 7-0 late in the first quarter thanks to a 19-yard interception return for a touchdown by freshman safety Tykee Smith on a tipped pass. The Mountaineers trailed 14-7 late in the first half before T.J. Simmons scored on a 9-yard pass from junior Jack Allison with 28 seconds left before halftime.

Allison, a Miami transfer, entered the game on West Virginia's second series after starting quarterback (and Oklahoma grad transfer) Austin Kendall suffered an undisclosed upper-body injury and did not return. Allison threw for 140 yards on 18-of-24 passing with a TD and an interception.

Purdy threw for 229 yards with a TD and an interception on 19-of-30 passing and also ran for a 2-yard TD run midway through the second quarter. It was the sophomore's team-best sixth rushing score of the season and 11th of his career.

Purdy's 18-yard TD pass to Joe Scates with 6:54 left in the fourth made it 31-14 to lock up another October win. The Cyclones have not lost a game in the month since falling 31-26 to Kansas State on Oct. 29, 2016.

Iowa State stays on the road for its next game, next Saturday at Texas Tech, while West Virginia travels to Oklahoma that same day.
