Hank Bachmeier completed 19 of 30 passes for 299 yards and two touchdowns to help No. 16 Boise State beat UNLV 38-13 in Mountain West play on Saturday night in Las Vegas.

Khalil Shakir had seven receptions for 111 yards and one touchdown, and John Hightower caught four passes for 105 yards and one score for Boise State (5-0, 2-0). Junior Curtis Weaver recorded three sacks to raise his career count to 29.5, breaking the Mountain West record of 28.5 shared by BYU's Jan Jorgensen and TCU's Jerry Hughes, both of whom played in the conference from 2006-09.

Kenyon Oblad completed 24 of 55 passes for 262 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in his first career start for UNLV (1-4, 0-2). The redshirt freshman got the call due to junior Armani Rogers suffering a knee injury in last week's loss to Wyoming.

Charles Williams gained 57 yards on 11 carries while playing through a knee injury but couldn't prevent the Rebels from losing their fourth consecutive contest. UNLV was outgained 507-331.

Boise State led 17-0 at halftime while accumulating more than three times as many yards (339-111) than the Rebels.

The Broncos traveled 70 yards on five plays on their initial possession of the game, with Bachmeier tossing a 2-yard scoring pass to Garrett Collingham.

Boise State made it 14-0 when Bachmeier threw a 76-yard scoring pass to Hightower, who eluded the 1-on-1 coverage of UNLV's Aaron Lewis down the left side to haul in the deep throw and cruise into the end zone.

The Broncos increased their lead to 17 when Joel Velasquez kicked a 52-yard field goal as time expired in the second quarter.

Hightower returned the opening kickoff of the second half 100 yards for a touchdown, but the return was nullified on a holding penalty by Brandon Hawkins.

Boise State got the touchdown back later in the quarter when it executed a double-handoff play with Akilian Butler scoring on a 23-yard run with 6:40 left in the stanza.

UNLV finally got on the board with 2:33 remaining in the third quarter when Oblad threw an 11-yard scoring pass to Mekhi Stevenson.

Boise State backup Chase Cord threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Shakir to make it 31-7 with 5:31 left in the game.

Oblad connected on a 12-yard touchdown pass to Darren Woods Jr. with 1:23 remaining.

The ensuing onside kick was returned 39 yards by Avery Williams, and Andrew Van Buren scored from 6 yards out on the next play to cap the scoring.
