No. 5 Ohio State scored on six of its seven first-half possessions while its defense shut down Nebraska's offense in an overwhelming 48-7 Big Ten win Saturday night at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Neb.

In upping their record to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference, the Buckeyes finished with 580 total yards of offense while limiting the Cornhuskers (3-2, 1-1) to 231. Quarterback Justin Fields turned in another efficient effort, hitting 15 of 21 passes for 212 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 72 yards and another score on 12 carries.

Running back J.K. Dobbins amassed 177 yards on 24 carries, becoming the 11th player in school history to rush for 3,000 yards in his career. Ohio State added clean play to its prodigious stats, committing just two penalties and no turnovers.

Sophomore quarterback Adrian Martinez endured a rough night for Nebraska, completing only 8 of 17 passes for 47 yards and throwing three first-half interceptions. Martinez did rip off a 56-yard run late in the third quarter that set up the Cornhuskers' only touchdown, a 9-yard run by Dedrick Mills.

But the Buckeyes were resting starters by then after dominating most of the first three quarters. Fields' 15-yard scoring run 4:25 into the game set an instant tone, and a 2-yard touchdown pass to K.J. Hill at the 4:37 mark of the first quarter made it 14-0.

Blake Haubeil converted a 23-yard field goal with 9:32 left in the first half for a 17-0 advantage, and Master Teague III added the first of his two touchdown runs barely a minute later from the 8, three plays after Martinez's third interception.

Teague's 1-yard plunge with 5:42 remaining in the half upped the margin to 31, and Fields found Austin Mack on an 18-yard scoring strike 1:34 before intermission to make it 38-0 at the break.

Haubeil hit from 36 yards out with 10:35 left in the third quarter, and Fields' 6-yard touchdown pass to Garrett Wilson in the back right corner of the end zone with 3:51 left in the third capped the Ohio State scoring.
