BYU quarterback Zach Wilson threw for 280 yards and one touchdown and ran for another score to help the host Cougars upset the No. 24 USC Trojans 30-27 in overtime on Saturday.

BYU's Jake Oldroyd made a 43-yard field goal on the first possession of overtime, and safety Dayan Ghanwoloku intercepted a third-down pass from Kedon Slovis to clinch the victory, the Cougars' their second straight win in overtime.

Slovis, a true freshman, completed 24 of 34 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns, both to wide receiver Michael Pittman. But he threw three interceptions, the first two of which led to 10 BYU points in the first half.

Wilson completed 20 of 33 passes, hitting 12 different receivers, and Cougars halfback Ty'Son Williams rushed for 99 yards on 19 carries. Williams is a graduate transfer from South Carolina.

USC's Chase McGrath sent the game into overtime with a career-long 52-yard field goal with 1:43 remaining to cap a 44-yard drive. BYU started the next drive with a personal foul penalty and did not gain a first down.

Slovis completed a 30-yard scoring pass to Pittman to give USC a 24-17 lead with 10:45 remaining, a score that was upheld on review after Pittman was forced out of bounds but was ruled to have re-established position inbounds before making a sprawling catch in the end zone.

Wilson scored on a 16-yard run for a 27-24 lead with 5:41 remaining after Oldroyd made a 32-yard field goal at the 8:13 mark.

Pittman had nine receptions for 95 yards, and halfback Vavae Malepeai rushed for 96 yards and one touchdown for the Trojans, who were attempting to go 3-0 for the second time in three seasons.

USC (2-1) had 452 yards total offense. BYU had 430.

BYU (2-1) beat Tennessee 29-26 in double overtime last week.

Ghanwoloku also scored on a 1-yard run in the first quarter behind 321-pound defensive tackle Khyiris Tonga, who lined up at fullback.
