Max Borghi scored three touchdowns for the Cougars (2-0) -- two rushing and one receiving.

The Cougars pulled away in the second half after leading just 24-10 at halftime.

Gordon, a fifth-year senior who was 29 of 35 for 420 yards and five touchdowns in a 58-7 victory against New Mexico State last weekend, had a 208.1 passer rating against the Bears (0-2) despite one interception.

Brandon Arconado and Easop Winston Jr. were Gordon's favorite targets. Arconado had eight catches for 127 yards and a touchdown, and Winston made six receptions for 113 yards and two scores.

Northern Colorado, which lost its season opener 35-18 at San Jose State, found some success on the ground, totaling 222 yards rushing. Milo Hall led the way with 31 carries for 113 yards and a touchdown.

The Bears' passing attack wasn't quite as successful, as Jacob Knipp, a sixth-year senior, was 8 of 15 for 128 yards.

WSU scored touchdowns on its first three possessions. Gordon hit Winston with a 7-yard scoring strike the first time the Cougars had the ball. UNC's Hall scored on an 11-yard run as the Bears tied it at 7, but Gordon then hit Borghi with a 4-yard pass to regain the lead.

Borghi scored on a 2-yard run early in the second quarter to make it 21-7 before the teams traded field goals heading into the intermission.

The Cougars outscored the visitors 21-0 in the third quarter to pull away. Gordon connected with Winston for a 7-yard score and Arconado from 5 yards out, while Borghi scored on a 3-yard run.

WSU backup quarterback Trey Tinsley threw a 4-yard TD pass to Davontavean Martin in the fourth quarter.
