John Lovett rushed for three touchdowns, JaMycal Hasty rushed for two, and Baylor coasted to a 55-27 blowout win over Abilene Christian on Saturday night in Waco, Texas, in the season opener for both teams.

Baylor jumped to a 38-20 lead at halftime and never looked back. Marques Jones and Jalen Hurd hauled in touchdown passes for the Bears, who are in their second season under head coach Matt Rhule.

Baylor split playing time among its top quarterbacks, both of whom helped to push the ball down the field. Jalan McClendon was 10 of 13 for 173 yards and two touchdowns, while Charlie Brewer was 8 of 15 for 138 yards and an interception.

The Bears racked up 606 yards of total offense.

Meanwhile, Luke Anthony was 25 of 38 for 224 yards, two touchdowns and one interception for Abilene Christian.

Lovett led Baylor on the ground with 12 carries for 115 yards. Hasty also did his part to wear down Abilene Christian's defense with 10 carries for 102 yards. He showed breakaway speed with a 54-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter that increased the Bears' lead to 31-10.

McClendon set the tone for the Bears with back-to-back touchdown passes to Hurd and Jones in the first quarter. Those scores followed a 35-yard field goal by Connor Martin as Baylor produced the first 17 points of the game.

Abilene Christian snapped its scoring drought when Anthony found D.J. Fuller for a 54-yard touchdown late in the first quarter. Fuller finished the game with nine catches for 102 yards.

Hasty rushed for scores from 3 yards and 54 yards in the second quarter as Baylor pulled ahead by 21 points. Lovett struck next with rushing touchdowns in the last two minutes of the first half and the opening five minutes of the second half to push the Bears' lead to 45-20.

The matchup marked the first game between the schools. Baylor equaled its win total (one) from all of last season, while Abilene Christian is looking to improve after scratching out a pair of wins in 2017.

Abilene Christian dropped its fifth consecutive season opener.
