A career-scoring performance from James Karnik led Boston College to a 68-63 victory over Virginia Tech on Saturday at Chestnut Hill, Mass., to give the Eagles their first home win since Dec 3.

Karnik had a career-high 26 points on 10-of-12 shooting night after he entered with an average of 7.6 points per game. His productive day helped him to surpass the 1,000-point plateau for his career.

Makai Ashton-Langford added 18 points for Boston College (8-9, 3-4 ACC). It was his third consecutive double-digit scoring game.

A 38-23 rebounding margin combined with a 48.1-percent shooting from the field allowed the Eagles to outscore the Hokies 36-26 in the paint.

Boston College took a five-point lead at 51-46 with 11:39 remaining on a slashing drive in the paint by Ashton-Langford.

Virginia Tech's Nahhiem Alleyne made 3-pointer to tie the score 61-all with 4:23 to play but the Hokies (10-8, 2-5 ) were outscored 7-2 down the stretch.

TJ Bickerstaff made a pair of free throws to seal the victory with 21 seconds remaining for the final points of the game.

Hunter Cattoor had 14 points and kept the Hokies in the game with his 3-point shooting, going 4 of 5 from distance, including 2 of 2 in the second half.

Keve Aluma scored 21 points to lead the Hokies. It was his 13th straight game double figures.

Virginia Tech's Justyn Mutts was held to four points after he entered averaging 10.5 per game.

The Hokies held a 33-31 halftime lead despite having Aluma and Mutts on the bench for much of the half with two fouls each. Mutts played just nine first-half minutes.

The Hokies built an 11-point lead early at 19-8 but the Eagles went 10 of 15 from the field to close out the half. Karnik added nine points in that run.

Virginia Tech has not won at Boston College since 2018.
