Jermaine Samuels scored a career-high 32 as No. 3 Villanova posted an 84-74 win against visiting Georgetown on Sunday in Big East Conference action.

The senior forward hit 10 of 17 shots from the field, including 6 of 7 from 3-point range, and added six rebounds, five assists and three steals.

The Wildcats (12-2, 7-1 Big East) have won 13 of the last 14 meetings with the Hoyas (5-9, 3-6).

Jeremiah Robinson-Earl scored 14 points, Collin Gillespie added 12 and Justin Moore had 10 for Villanova, which bounced back from Wednesday's 70-59 loss at St. John's.

Jahvon Blair led Georgetown with 18 points while Qudus Wahab added 17. Jamorko Pickett scored 12 points and grabbed eight boards and Chudier Bile had 12 points for the Hoyas, who had a two-game winning streak snapped.

Samuels scored 12 of Villanova's first 20 points as it held an early two-point lead with about 12 minutes remaining in the first half. After a timeout, the Wildcats scored the next seven points to move ahead 27-18.

Bile made a runner in the lane and a 3-pointer from the corner to pull the Hoyas within 30-29.

Two late free throws from Robinson-Earl gave Villanova a 37-35 lead at halftime.

Georgetown made 15 of 28 shots but only 3 of 9 attempts from beyond the arc before the break.

Wahab had a couple of early offensive rebounds and baskets as the Hoyas cut their deficit to 46-45.

Villanova surged back in front 52-47 when Samuels converted a three-point play with about 13 minutes remaining. On its next possession, Cole Swider dropped in a trey and the lead was eight.

The Hoyas wouldn't go away. When Pickett hit an 18-foot jumper, the game was tied at 60 with 8:27 to go.

Georgetown led briefly at 64-63 and 67-66, but the Hoyas only made one field goal in the final four minutes.

Caleb Daniels and Swider sank 3-pointers to put the Wildcats up 78-71 with two minutes to play, more than enough cushion to secure the victory.
