Cam Davis scored 18 of his career-high 28 points in the second half and visiting Navy upset Georgetown 78-71 on Tuesday night in Washington, D.C.

Navy (3-1) beat Georgetown for the first time since the 1976-77 season and posted its first regular-season road win over a Big East opponent since defeating Providence on Dec. 29, 1981. The Midshipmen also have opened a season 3-1 for the first time since the 2008-09 season.

Davis made 10 of 15 attempts from the field and tied a career best by sinking five 3-pointers as Navy shot 60.6 percent in the second half and 50 percent overall.

John Carter Jr. added 20 on 8-of-14 shooting and also grabbed eight rebounds for Navy, which became the first Patriot League team to beat Georgetown.

Jahvon Blair and Jamorko Pickett scored 17 points apiece for Georgetown, but the duo combined to make just 5 of 19 attempts from 3-point range. Qudus Wahab added a career-best 16 points and Jalen Harris chipped in 12 for the Hoyas, who shot 41.7 percent.

Davis several big shots down the stretch, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with 6:39 remaining that put the Midshipmen ahead for good at 61-60. From there, Navy controlled the next few minutes and withstood a late Georgetown comeback attempt.

The Midshipmen opened a 70-62 lead when Tyler Nelson stripped Donald Carey in the lane and coasted in for a layup with 3:34 remaining, forcing the Hoyas to use a timeout. Navy took a 76-66 lead with 85 seconds left on a layup by Davis.

Georgetown was within 76-71 when Pickett hit a 3-pointer with 20 seconds left but two free throws by Davis with 17 seconds remaining iced the game.

Navy missed 11 of its 15 3-point tries in a sluggish first half for both offenses but after blowing a six-point lead, the Midshipmen took a 29-26 halftime lead on a 3-pointer by Carter with seven seconds remaining.

Georgetown hit three 3-pointers and opened the second half on an 11-2 run to take a 37-31 lead on a 3-pointer by Harris with 17:40 remaining. The Hoyas took a 50-45 lead on a 3-point play by Blair with 12:35 remaining, but they missed eight of their next 12 shots and Navy began to seize control.
