Penn State scored 17 consecutive points in the opening seven minutes to set the tone for a 75-55 upset of No. 15 Virginia Tech on Tuesday night in ACC/Big Ten Challenge play at Blacksburg, Va.

Junior guard Izaiah Brockington scored a career-high 24 points to pace Penn State (3-1).

Myreon Jones posted 14 points and Myles Dread added 11 as Penn State -- wearing black jerseys with pink numerals as a tribute to the school's original colors -- canned 12 of its 23 3-point tries and committed just five turnovers.

Jalen Cone scored 11 points off the bench to pace Virginia Tech (4-1). Nahiem Alleyne added 10 while leading scorer Keve Aluma posted all eight of his points after halftime.

Penn State's breakneck pace forced Virginia Tech out of its comfort zone early. After the Hokies' Wabissa Bede sank a 3-pointer at the shot-clock buzzer on the game's first possession, the Nittany Lions reeled off 17 straight points over the next six minutes as Virginia Tech was forced into five turnovers.

Cone came off the bench to score eight points in three minutes to cut Penn State's lead to 21-13, but the Nittany Lions' variety of harassing defenses forced another dry spell. The Hokies managed just two points over five minutes as Penn State took a 31-15 lead at the 5:29 mark on a Jones 3-pointer.

Trent Buttrick's pick-and-roll layup from Jones with 2:36 left pushed Penn State's lead to 39-20 -- the second time in three days the Nittany Lions built a 19-point first-half lead against a Power 5 foe.

While Penn State wound up squandering Sunday's 19-point lead in an overtime loss to Seton Hall, it kept pouring it on against Virginia Tech. When Jones swished a high-arcing jumper from the top of the key with 15:06 to go, that gave him eight points in 88 seconds and the Nittany Lions a 58-31 bulge.
