Isaac Bonton scored 17 points and CJ Elleby added 15 before fouling out as Washington State defeated visiting UCLA 79-71 in overtime Saturday in Pacific-12 Conference play in Pullman, Wash.

Elleby made a 3-pointer from the left corner with 9.9 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the score at 65-all.

After WSU's Jeff Pollard scored in the lane on the first possession of overtime, Elleby stole a UCLA pass and drove for a layup, giving the Cougars a 69-65 lead. Bonton then made a jumper from the free-throw line as WSU scored the first six points of the extra session and the Bruins never caught up.

Bonton scored eight points in overtime for WSU (10-5 overall, 1-1 Pac-12), which trailed by as many as 11 points in the second half.

Aljaz Kunc added 12 points for the Cougars and Tony Miller scored all 11 of his in the second half.

Chris Smith scored a career-high 22 points and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds for UCLA (8-7, 1-1), which was looking to open conference play with a road sweep after upsetting Washington 66-64 on Thursday night. Prince Ali scored 11 points and Jules Bernard added 10 for the Bruins.

The Bruins had one last chance to win in regulation, but Smith had the ball knocked away at the top of the key and Jake Kyman was forced to attempt a half-court shot as time expired.

The Bruins led 50-39 with 13:03 remaining before the Cougars rallied.

A 20-5 run, capped by Bonton's fast-break layup, gave WSU a 59-55 advantage with 6:15 left.

UCLA closed the first half with a 15-5 run to take a 33-24 lead at the intermission, as Smith had 11 points.

The Cougars made three of their first five shots, but then missed 15 of their next 16 and were 5 of 24 from the field in the first half. Elleby had seven points at the half despite 1-for-7 shooting.
