Davide Moretti's career-high 25 points and hot shooting as a team helped Texas Tech upset No. 12 West Virginia 89-81 Wednesday night in Lubbock, Texas.

Terrence Shannon Jr. added 23 points and seven rebounds while Jahmi'us Ramsey scored 21 for the Red Raiders, who made 25 of 46 shots for 54.3 percent and 28 of 32 free throws (87.5 percent) for the game.

West Virginia didn't score a field goal for the final 3:53 of the game. Derek Culver led the Mountaineers (16-4, 4-3 Big 12) with 16 points, one of five West Virginia players to score in double figures.

Five free throws from Shannon late in the first half helped Texas Tech (13-7, 4-3) take a 41-30 lead with 1:02 to play. The 11-point lead was the Red Raiders' largest of the half, and Shannon scored 13 of his points, including seven free throws.

The Mountaineers finished the half on an 8-1 run to make it 42-38 at halftime.

An already physical game got chippy in the second half with three technical fouls called in the first four minutes. West Virginia trailed by two, 44-42, 88 seconds into the half, but the Red Raiders used a 15-4 run to go up 59-46 with 14:52 to play.

Three Mountaineers -- Shannon, Jermaine Haley and Oscar Tshiebwe -- were whistled for technical fouls in the second half.

A 3 from Moretti, then a nifty scoop layup with some backspin while being fouled, gave Texas Tech a 62-48 lead at the 13:28 mark.

Starters Culver and Haley had to sit with four fouls each before the midway point of the second half, and Texas Tech built a 70-55 lead. West Virginia rallied with a 12-3 run to make it 73-67 at the 8:18 mark.

Moretti's corner 3 put Texas Tech in front 78-69 with 7:15 left, and West Virginia got only as close as 86-80 the rest of the way.
