Trey Landers added 12 points, 10 rebounds and four assists for the Flyers (8-1), who now have won three straight since losing to No. 2 Kansas in overtime in Hawaii.

Roman Penn led the Bulldogs (8-3) with 13 points.

Liam Robbins chipped in with 12 for the Bulldogs.

The Flyers controlled the paint, outscoring the Bulldogs, 34-18. Dayton, of the Atlantic 10, also held a 42-29 rebounding advantage over their Missouri Valley Conference counterpart.

Drake trailed by eight points early but the Bulldogs went on an 11-0 to take a 16-13 lead on a 3-pointer by Robbins midway through the first half.

The Flyers' offense finally found its stride and outscored the Bulldogs 21-6 over the last 9:53 of the half to take a 34-22 lead into intermission.

Rodney Chatman's 3-pointer off a turnover ignited the run. Ryan Mikesell's layup gave the Flyers the lead for good at 20-18.

After two Toppin free throws, Jalen Crutcher connected from the top of the key on a long trey to give the Flyers a 25-19 lead.

Dayton's advantage grew to 41-26 on Landers' layup early in the second half. Penn's 3-pointer trimmed the Drake deficit to 10 at 41-31 with about 16 minutes to go in the game.

But Toppin and Watson went to work and scored the next 11 Dayton points as the Flyers opened up a 52-31 lead.

A layup by Nebraska transfer Jordy Tshimanga gave Dayton a 54-31 advantage.

While Dayton came into the game third in the nation in scoring with 87.4 points per game, it was the Flyers' defense that rose to the occasion against Drake. The Bulldogs shot 28.6 percent from the field, making just 16 of 56 of their attempts.

The Flyers also dominated the tempo, scoring 35 fast-break points to just four for Drake.
