Forward Trevion Williams had 19 points and eight rebounds, lifting Purdue to a 57-49 win over rival Indiana on Thursday night in West Lafayette, Ind.

The Boilermakers (15-14, 8-10 Big Ten) snapped a four-game losing streak to keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive. Purdue won the game with defense, holding Indiana to 25.4 percent shooting from the field and scoring 16 points off 13 turnovers.

Point guard Eric Hunter Jr. added 17 points for Purdue, which won despite shooting 37.5 percent from the field and 2 of 17 from 3-point range.

Devonte Green led Indiana (18-10, 8-9) with 11 points, but had four of IU's 13 turnovers. Freshman forward Trayce Jackson-Davis, IU's leading scorer at 14.1 points per game, was held to six points on 2 of 7 shooting.

Neither team could find an offensive rhythm during a physical, grinding first half. Indiana made just 3 of its first 21 shot attempts, while Purdue made just 5 of its first 15.

But Purdue created separation late in the first half by closing the half on a 6-0 run.

Williams made an inside layup to put Purdue up 25-20, then, off an Indiana turnover, Hunter followed up a miss in transition to put the Boilermakers up 27-20. Indiana then tried to hold for the last shot of the half, but Hunter stole the ball from IU guard Al Durham at halfcourt and made a transition dunk to put Purdue up 29-20 at halftime.

With IU starting point Rob Phinisee sitting the final 3:56 of the half with two fouls, Purdue was aggressive going after replacements Green and Durham, scoring 12 points off eight Indiana turnovers. Hunter scored 10 points in the first half, while Williams had 9 points.

Purdue led by as many as 16 points in the second half, but Indiana cut Purdue's lead to 51-46 when Green made two of three free throws after being fouled on a 3-pointer with 43 seconds left.

But Purdue was able to close the game out by making its final six free throw attempts.
