LJ Figueroa set career highs with 28 points and seven 3-pointers as St. John's snapped a three-game losing streak with a 79-66 win over struggling DePaul in Big East play on Saturday at Chicago.

Mustapha Heron scored 20 points and made four 3-pointers as the Red Storm (13-8, 2-6 in Big East) set a season high by making 13 of their 32 attempts from beyond the arc.

St. John's also snapped a seven-game Big East road losing streak by beating DePaul for the second time this month.

Charlie Moore had 20 points while Jalen Coleman-Lands and Paul Reed each added 15 for the Blue Demons (13-7, 1-6 in Big East), who shot 30.8 percent from the field and made just 4 of 25 attempts from 3-point range (16.0 percent) to lose for the fourth time in five games at home. Reed also finished with 12 rebounds.

The Red Storm used a 10-0 run to build a 47-38 lead with just over 14 minutes to play in the second half. They ran the advantage to 10, but DePaul got within 58-55 with less than seven minutes to go in the game.

However, a bucket by Heron and 3-pointer from Figueroa put the visitors up by eight and back in control of a game that they would not relinquish.

St. John's hit seven 3-pointers in the first half and led 31-25 with a little less than four minutes left in the session. However, DePaul responded with a 9-0 run to go ahead 34-31 in the final minute.

Figueroa, though, knocked down a 3 from the top of the arc with 10 seconds left as the shot clock was expiring to tie the game going into the break. The Red Storm shot just 32.3 percent in the first 20 minutes, were competitive via the 3-pointer and the fact the Blue Demons went 3 of 23 from distance.

St. John's went 16 of 19 from the free-throw line. DePaul, meanwhile, was 22 of 34 from the stripe.
