Jairus Hamilton scored 15 of his career-high 23 points in the second half to lead Boston College to a late rally and a 61-56 win over Virginia Tech in an Atlantic Coast Conference game at Chestnut Hill, Mass.

Hamilton made his fifth 3-pointer of the game to give the Eagles (10-10, 4-5) a 57-53 lead with 2:05 left in regulation.

After two free throws by Jay Heath, Virginia Tech (14-6, 5-4) cut the lead to 59-56 with 31 seconds left on a 3-pointer by Jalen Cone.

The Hokies got the rebound after Derryck Thornton missed two free throws but Wabissa Bede missed a layup with 14 seconds left. Hamilton sealed the win for the Eagles with two free throws with 12 seconds left.

Heath finished with 15 points for the Eagles, who snapped a five-game losing streak to the Hokies.

Virginia Tech's Landers Nolley II, Nahiem Alleyne and Tyrece Radford did not start because they were late to the morning shootaround.

Nolley led the Hokies with 15 points and Alleyne had 10.

Despite the change in their lineup, the Hokies managed to take a 22-12 lead with 7:54 left in the first half.

A 3-pointer by Heath with 37 seconds left in the first half narrowed Virginia Tech's lead to 31-26 by halftime.

Alleyne, Nolley and Radford came off the bench to combine for 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field in the first half. Alleyne had eight points behind two 3-pointers.

Boston College rallied to tie the game at 37 with 15:04 left in regulation but the Eagles then went on a stretch of only one point in 5:24. Virginia Tech struggled from the floor also and led 44-40 with 8:43 remaining when Hamilton broke Boston College's field-goal drought with a layup.

Two free throws by Hamilton with 4:17 left gave Boston College a 50-49 lead, its first lead since 15:03 remained in the first half.
