Markell Johnson scored 27 points on 9-for-15 shooting, including a key layup in the final minute, and North Carolina State rallied for a 73-68 win over visiting Notre Dame in an Atlantic Coast Conference showdown Wednesday night in Raleigh, N.C.

D.J. Funderburk added 16 points off the bench for North Carolina State (11-4, 2-2), which won for the ninth time in 10 home games this season.

Prentiss Hubb scored 24 points on 9-for-14 shooting to lead Notre Dame (10-5, 1-3). John Mooney posted a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds, and T.J. Gibbs scored 14.

The score was knotted at 66-66 when Funderburk sank a pair of free throws to put the Wolfpack on top by two points with 1:38 remaining. Jericole Hellems had a steal on the next possession, and Johnson capitalized with a layup to push the lead to 70-66 with 58 seconds left.

Notre Dame trailed the rest of the way, managing only a pair of free throws from Hubb.

After trailing by as many as 12 early in the second half, North Carolina State fought back to tie the score at 60-60 with 5:27 left. The Wolfpack used a 7-0 run to pull even after two free throws by Funderburk, a 3-pointer by Braxton Beverly and two more free throws by Funderburk.

A 6-0 run to start the second half allowed the Fighting Irish to increase their lead to 45-34. Mooney opened the scoring with a layup, and Hubb followed with back-to-back layups to extend the advantage to double digits.

Beverly made a 3-pointer off a feed from Johnson to end Notre Dame's run. The basket snapped a 3:33 scoring drought to start the second half for North Carolina State.

Notre Dame led 39-34 at the half. Hubb led all scorers with 14 points on 5-for-6 shooting, including 4 of 5 from beyond the arc.

Johnson paced the Wolfpack with 13 points before the break.

The Fighting Irish played without guard Rex Pflueger, who sat out because of a bone bruise to his surgically repaired left knee. Sophomore Dane Goodwin started in his place.
