Ryan Betley scored 22 points, freshman Jordan Dingle added 19 and visiting Pennsylvania defeated Providence 81-75 on Saturday.

Despite being in foul trouble much of the second half, AJ Brodeur also had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Quakers, who improved to 3-2.

Penn has won four of the 10 all-time meetings with the Friars.

Maliek White scored a career-high 20 points before fouling out for Providence while Alpha Diallo added 16 points and eight rebounds. Luwane Pipkins had 14 points. Team scoring leader David Duke struggled mightily and had two points on 1-for-7 shooting.

Providence dropped to 4-2.

Penn jumped out to a 36-23 lead when Brodeur converted a turnaround bank shot in the paint with 6:05 left in the first half.

After a missed shot by Diallo, Dingle scored in the lane for a 15-point Quakers advantage.

Betley's four 3-pointers contributed largely to Penn's double-digit lead.

Brodeur kept the pressure on with a three-point play for a 43-27 Penn advantage with 1:36 left.

White kept the Friars close with 13 points in the first half. They shot just 11 of 30 from the field in the opening 20 minutes.

Brodeur (15) and Betley (14) anchored the Quakers as they led 47-30 at halftime.

Providence trailed by 19 early in the second half before finally cutting into the deficit with a three-point play by Diallo to get within 51-38 with 16:22 remaining.

Following a steal, White was fouled by Betley shooting a 3-pointer and hit two of three shots to cut the gap to 51-40.

Providence had a couple of empty possessions on offense but stiffened on defense. Diallo then scored but missed the free throw on the potential three-point play to close within nine at 51-42.

Dingle and Betley each knocked down a trey and the Quakers extended their lead back to 64-52 with 6:20 left.

Penn still led 75-64 with 1:32 left after White drove to the basket and hit a layup.

Providence closed within six in the final 22 seconds.
