Ashton Gibbs scored 21 points and No. 16 Pittsburgh used an early run to put away Robert Morris, 81-71, in Philly Hoop Group action on Sunday.

The Panthers (5-1) scored seven straight points to start a 16-4 burst that helped to build a 28-12 cushion with 8:03 to go in the first half. Pittsburgh hit 11 of its first 18 field-goal attempts on the way to a 55 percent effort (16-for-29) in the opening period.

Gibbs shot only 6-for-17 on the day but scored 12 points during the first half to help the Panthers establish control. Talib Zanna finished with 10 points and a game-high 15 rebounds for Pitt, while Tray Woodall added 12 points and 10 assists.

Cordon Williams scored 19 points to lead four players in double figures for the Colonials (4-2), who committed just one second-half turnover but still could not get any closer than eight points. Robert Morris shot just 12-for-35 (34 percent) in the second half.
