Freshmen Justin Lewis and Kam Jones finished with career-high point totals as Marquette knocked off Ole Miss 78-72 on Thursday night in the first round of the Shriners Children's Charleston Classic at Charleston, S.C.

Darryl Morsell led the Golden Eagles (4-0) with 22 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor and 9-of-10 success from the free-throw line, eclipsing 20 points for the fourth straight game.

Lewis amassed 21 points, nine rebounds and a career-high five 3-pointers, and Jones had 18 points off the bench.

Marquette recorded its highest 3-point percentage in a game this season, going 13 of 32 (40.6 percent) from deep.

Jarkel Joiner and Nysier Brooks each had 13 points for Ole Miss (2-1). Jaemyn Brakefield added 11 points, and Luis Rodriguez chipped in nine points. Brooks grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

After getting off to a quick start, Ole Miss was outscored 47-36 in the second half and went just 2-for-9 from 3-point range following halftime.

Neither team led by more than seven points over the final 20 minutes. The Golden Eagles maintained a lead for the final seven minutes of action, although the Rebels got within two points with 3:20 to go.

After Marquette trailed 36-31 at halftime, Lewis scored the Golden Eagles' first 11 second-half points, sinking three 3-pointers. Morsell followed up the offensive outburst with a 3-pointer to give Marquette a 45-44 advantage, its first lead of the game.

Ole Miss shot 14 of 28 overall and 6 of 11 from behind the arc in the first half. Joiner and Brooks each had eight points for Ole Miss, while Jones had 10 on 4-of-8 shooting for Marquette to lead all scorers.

The Rebels started quickly, scoring eight the game's first eight points as part of a 17-5 run over the first six minutes. Marquette hit just two of its first 10 shots but responded with a 6-0 run to cut the deficit in half.
