West Virginia 77, Mount St. Mary's 62: Juwan Staten scored 22 points and dished out six assists as the host Mountaineers cruised to a comfortable win in the season opener for both teams.

Eron Harris added 19 points for West Virginia, which hasn't lost a home opener since the 1989-90 season. The Mountaineers shot 56 percent from the field and only missed three free throws (15-of-18).

Julian Norfleet led the way with 19 points for Mount St. Mary's, which is winless in four meetings all time with West Virginia. Kristijan Krajina and Will Miller chipped in with nine points apiece in a losing cause.

West Virginia opened up the game 9-of-12 from the field to take a 23-14 lead midway through the first half. Norfleet's basket closed the gap to four before the Mountaineers went on an 11-6 run to take a nine-point advantage into the break.

Devin Williams scored four straight points to give West Virginia its biggest lead of the game at 51-38 with five minutes gone in the second half. Mount St. Mary's tried to claw its way back into the game, but could get no closer than 10 points.
