No. 4 Michigan 71, Kansas State 57: Tim Hardaway Jr. had 23 points and seven rebounds as the Wolverines pulled away in the second half to win the championship game of the NIT Season Tip-Off at Madison Square Garden.

Michigan (5-0) opened the second half with a 24-8 run and led 51-30 with 10:41 remaining. Trey Burke and Nik Stauskas scored 10 points apiece and Glenn Robinson III added nine points and 11 rebounds for the Wolverines,

Rodney McGruder led Kansas State (5-1) with 16 points and Angel Rodriguez added 10 points and six assists. The Wildcats only trailed by five at halftime despite shooting 25 percent in the first 20 minutes.

Michigan took control immediately after halftime and extended its lead to 66-47 after Spike Albrecht’s 3-pointer with 4:10 to play. The Wolverines outrebounded the Wildcats 40-28.

Jordan Henriquez scored eight points for Kansas State, which shot 36.7 percent from the field - including 4-of-17 (23.5 percent) from 3-point range. After holding their first five opponents to 33.9 percent shooting, the Wildcats allowed Michigan to shoot 52.7 percent.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Wolverines have outrebounded each of their five opponents by double-digits. … The Wildcats have never beaten Michigan in three meetings, including the 1964 Final Four. … Hardaway left the game with 3:37 remaining after taking a knee to his head.
