Jamaal Franklin scored 28 points and the host Aztecs hammered the overmatched Hawks.

After opening with a loss to nationally ranked Syracuse, the Aztecs found things much easier against the NAIA school. DeShawn Stephens took a lob pass from Franklin and slammed it down to give San Diego State a double-digit lead just six minutes into the game, and the Hawks never got any closer.

Franklin added 12 rebounds and four assists to his dominating performance. Chase Tapley chipped in with 18 points and Xavier Thames scored nine points before leaving with an injury to his jaw in the second half.

San Diego State, which had a 42-33 rebounding margin, led 49-24 at the half. All 13 members of the Aztecs played in the game and 11 of them scored.

San Diego Christian (0-1) was led by Kevin Dawson with 15 points and Kwaminique Brandon with 14.

GAME NOTEBOOK: It was the first time the Hawks have played a live game on national television. ... San Diego Christian doesn't count Division I games against its record. ...The Aztecs had 10 shots blocked in their opener against Syracuse.
