Freshman Javan Felix scored 20 points for the first time and handed out a game-high seven assists to help the Longhorns snap a two-game skid with a win over the visiting Bobcats.

Jonathan Holmes had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Texas (6-4), which has won 24 straight meetings with Texas State.

Matt Staff led the Bobcats (4-6) with 15 points. Reid Koenen added 10. Staff made all six of his free throws, but his teammates were just 12-for-24.

Texas led by as many as 14 points in the first half but found itself clinging to a 41-35 advantage with less than 16 minutes left in the game. A Felix layup kicked off an 11-3 run that Julien Lewis capped with consecutive layups to put the hosts up 52-38 with 11:51 to go.

The Bobcats battled back to within four with less than six minutes left. Once again, Felix provided the spark, scoring four straight points and then assisting on a Sheldon McClellan layup with 4:18 remaining to make it 64-54. Texas State never got closer than seven points thereafter.
