Chase Tapley scored 15 points and Jamaal Franklin added 14 points and eight rebounds as the host Aztecs won their eighth consecutive game by routing the Toreros.

Deshawn Stephens added 11 points on 5-of-5 shooting as San Diego State (8-1) defeated their cross-town rivals for the seventh straight time and 10th in the last 11 meetings.

Ken Rancifer scored 16 points and Chris Manresa and Christopher Anderson tallied 11 apiece for San Diego (6-6), which shot just 38.3 percent while seeing a three-game winning streak halted.

The Toreros led 18-16 midway through the first half before San Diego State rolled off 12 consecutive points. Tapley culminated the splurge with back-to-back 3-pointers and later hit three free throws with four seconds left to provide the Aztecs with a 39-26 halftime edge.

San Diego State expanded the lead to 22 on a basket by James Rahon with 9:29 remaining and led comfortably the rest of the contest.
