Spencer Dinwiddie scored a career-high 29 points and the host Buffaloes led by 25 in the first half before holding off a fierce rally by the Rams.

Andre Roberson had 15 points and 14 rebounds - his fourth consecutive double-double - for Colorado (7-1), which shot 59.3 percent from the field before intermission. Dinwiddie, a 6-6 sophomore guard who is averaging 25.7 points in his last three games, made his first five shots, including three 3-pointers, and finished 8-for-10 from the floor with five 3s.

Colton Iverson had 19 points and 14 rebounds - his fifth straight double-double - and Dorian Green scored 18 for the Rams (6-1). Colorado State closed to within three in the second half before coming up short in its bid for the first 7-0 start in school history.

It didn't take Colorado long to whip the sellout crowd into a frenzy as it scored the game's first nine points and 15 of the first 17. Green's 3-pointer capped an 8-0 run and brought Colorado State to within 15-10 before the Buffaloes exploded on a 25-7 burst - with 13 points from Dinwiddie - before settling for a 42-22 halftime lead.

The Rams scored the first six points of the second half and a 7-0 run - capped by a Green jumper - made it 49-39 with 13:22 remaining. After Colorado State whittled the deficit down to 54-51 with 6:44 left, Colorado got key baskets from guards Askia Booker and Sabatino Chen while surviving 12-of-25 foul shooting in the second half.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Colorado has won 87 of the 123 meetings in the series that began in 1906 and has won 16 of the last 17 at home. ... The Rams entered the game leading the nation in rebounding margin at 17.3 and won the battle of the boards Wednesday 39-27. ... Iverson, who is a total of three rebounds shy of having a double-double in every game this season, entered 10th in the country in rebounds at 11.2; Roberson was 11th at 11.1.
